middle name - Anna or Alexandra

hello
My dd will have 2 middle names (family names). The first middle name will be Sophie or Sophia. The second will be either Anna or Alexandra. Do you think one of these 'A' names is nicer than the other, particularly if dd ever decides to go by one of her middle names? Thanks!

Alexandra defintely. SOunds classy, goes nicely next to Sophie but still sounds separate, SophieAnna sort of runs together.

Jojay · 08/01/2009 15:06

Alexandra

DeborahBorr · 08/01/2009 15:06

If you're having an A middle name, I think it needs to be Sophie not Sophia. Like both middle names.

islandofsodor · 08/01/2009 15:08

Yes I agree with Deborah, Sophie not Sophia.

Twims · 08/01/2009 15:09

Sophie Alexandra

Kotek · 08/01/2009 15:16

Thank you. Also, if I was to swap the middle names around would, eg, Anna Sophie or Anna Sophia sound a bit odd?

Anna Sophia sounds better than Anna Sophie, it sounds a bit Eastern Europeanish but I think Sophie Alexandra sounds nicer.

Kotek · 08/01/2009 15:39

Thanks islandofsodor - well spotted, I am Eastern European!!

I prefer Anna to Alexandra. Alexandra not very feminine. I agree that Sophia Alexandra sounds a bit Eastern European or something.

Sophia Annabel flows well.

Sophie Anna

Anna Sophie sounds the best to me.

Sophia Anne is lovely

2k9kids · 08/01/2009 16:43

Anna much nicer

NorktasticNinja · 08/01/2009 16:49

Both are lovely but I think you need to let it be dictated by the overall rhythm of the whole name IYSWIM.

How many syllables are there in the first name and in the surname?

Kotek · 08/01/2009 17:20

3 syllables in first name and only one in surname. thanks

So, with Anna as a (first or second) middle name the rhythm would be:

da da da - da da - da da - da

and with Alexandra as the second mn it would be:

da da da - da da - da da da da - da

TBH, I prefer the first

islandofsodor · 08/01/2009 22:26

If you are Eastern European then I would choose Anna Sophia then as it just sounds right.

Sophie Alexandra sounds very English and I love that name but I am biased I guess as ds who is Alexander would have been Alexandra if he had been a girl.

I think Alexandra goes best with the Sophie/Sophia part if thats any help?
