Amelie or Eloise?

Yep, its me again!

Right, we had decided on Amelie and I have been testing it out on strangers (when they have asked me what names I have) and 9 out of 10 people have replied "Emily?" or just assumed I said Emily and said "very popular name" to which I have replied "No, A M E L I E!" As much as I love the name, I know this will wear thin as I already have to spell DD2's name out a lot.

Anyway, Eloise has popped into my head, again probably a name which I will have to spell but which one would you use?

Also anyone with an Eloise, how do you pronounce it?

Rachie, I would pronounce it Eh-low-ease as you say, it doesn't look like it should be pronounced El-Louise to me either.

Abit off Amelie. There are loads of them and it is basically the French version of Amelia surely so if you are not French and dont have French family etc looks abit pretentious IMO

Both are pretty but I prefer Eloise

loobylu3 · 09/01/2009 15:23

I'm not all that keen on Eloise tbh. Amelie is pretty but quite popular if that bothers you. I like other pp's suggestions of Estelle and Elodie.
Maybe you should go back to your original list if you are still undecided as I'm sure I've seen you post several other pretty names over the past few months!
If it's any consilation, I'm also decided onmy DC3's name! I think we are suffering from the same indecision due to too much choice and probably the last child!!

not Elouise or El waz as above (wtf?!) "

Sorry for my 'mispronounciation'...no need for a wtf comment

Amelie... no question. My DD is Amelie and (obviously) i think that is the most beautiful girls name ever! We have had so many nice compliments about it. xx

Kotek · 12/01/2009 17:53

Mieowcat - how do you pronounce it - just interested to know exactly (with A as in father or A as in cat?) as we are considering Amelie and people seem to pronounce it a bit differently so would be interested to hear from a mother of one! thanks.

Both beautiful names. Like I've said before I want Amelie for myself but DP wont allow it. And I've recently become very fond of Eloise too, my friend nearly named her LO Eloise but changed her mind at the last minute so I'd feel a bit weird having her 'cast off' name but if it wasn't that I'd be considering it myself. I'd say u can't go wrong with either.

FairySparkles · 12/01/2009 20:29

Amelie would definately be my preference - don't be put off by people getting names wrong tho - so many people seem to struggle with even the simplest of names your gonna have to spell out and repeat it what ever you name her - my daughter is Ellie which I didn't think anyone would have a problem with but if I had a quid for every time someone asked me how to spell it - or called her Ella!!!! AAAARRRGGGGHHH!!!
Hee hee - you'l probably go for something totally different in the end...... good luck

pamelat · 12/01/2009 20:31

I like Amelie
