Do babies look like a name??

Hello, be gentle I'm new here.

I'm expecting a girl on Friday. We have a list of about 5 or 6 names, and are working on the theory that we'll know which one is right once she's born. Is it just a fallacy that she'll look like a Bonnie or Ronnie (not actual suggestions)? I'm wondering if in reality we'll be too tired and overwhelmed to think about it and should pick something concrete now.

I think for me it was more a case of they definitely didn't look like a particular name, rather than looking like one. Iyswim?

No! Mine didn't. Her name is quite elegant, so it took her a while to grow into it, or, for my brain to merge her with that name.

It is quite strange at the start I think. yOu think, she's not really phoebe (or whatever) she is only phoebe because I* say she is and it all seems a bit surreal.

We were fairly certain of DD's name before she was born but we agreed not to tell anyone until after she was here and we'd had a chance to be certain.
Once she was born she didn't not look like her name (IYSWIM) and so we stuck with it. But we didn't tell anyone what we were calling her for a few hours after she was born.

i really dont think they look like a name. jus my view....

We pisked ds's name before he was born. He was born on a full moon and he really seems to suit his name.

we picked one girls name for our DD and it suited her. We picked a couple of boys names and when DS was born he looked like NONE of them- we then chose one that we had rejected as he looked like that so I don't think is is a lot of crap!!

OK, any thoughts on any of the following:

Beatrice
Harriet
Rosalyn
Rebecca
Susannah
Zoe

Middle name is likely to be Melissa, surname is one sylabul and begins with S, so less keen on the aliteration with Susannah. I did really like Beatrice Harriet, but we end up with the initals BHS

Beatrice Harriet is a lovely name and I don't think having the initials BHS is a bad thing TBH. Anyway by the end of next year it may not even exist any more, high street stores are closing!!!

Beatrice Harriet is lovely and really classy. Or I would go for Harriet as well as a first name - pretty and not too common.

I think Harriet and Zoe are the nicest on your list. I wouldn't rely on her looking like a specific name when she's born. DS was nameless for several days partly because we'd failed to agree a name and were both hoping a name would suddenly fly into our heads when we saw him. It didn't.

No baby is going to 'look like' someone with a certain name. On the contrary, we associate names with certain people who were given these names imo. Also, all babies look quite similar and don't look very elegant (cute as they may be).

I would certainly chose a name beforehand. From your list, I like Beatrice and Susannah, but go with what YOU like!

We had 2 choices for boy and girl before DS was born (didn't know what he was going to be) and it was a case of deciding which one seemed to suit him better when he appeared. Sometimes I think there could have been better names for him but he is who he is now and his name doesn't NOT suit him, iyswim.

A friend of mine did this too - she still hadn't decided a week or so later, when I went to see him - so I called him by one name - nada, then called him by the other and he turned his head a little - so she went with the second name!! It does suit him better than the first, too.

Hmm. My DS was going to be Elliot but then when he was born neither DH nor I thought he looked like an Elliot. We both thought he looked like a Sam (another name on our shortlist of five).
Therefore we adopted a more relaxed approach to naming DD. Was hoping it would just 'come to me' in much the same way, but it didn't and we ended up in an awful muddle and changing her name eventually at 3 months old. So i guess it can happen either way. i would suggest having a name that you intend to call them and then checking if you are happy with this after the baby is born. If so, great, if not, remember your short short list and go through them at your leisure.
BTW i like Zoe and Susannah best off your list, although there are lots of possible spellings of Susannah which put DH and I off it.
