I like Felicity a lot (despite undoubted slight ponciness). I don't like the others.

janeite · 07/01/2009 19:19

I like Felicity a lot but don't really like the others.

LiffeyMummyPig · 07/01/2009 19:46

Georgiana makes me think of Mr Darcy's ward. Less is more sometimes and Georgia is one of those times.

Penelope is lovely and it has gorgeous nicknames. I couldn't imagine saying Penelope every single time though, so do you like Polly, Penny or Poppy enough for that to be your child's name?

Felicity. OK. I like the style and elegance of the name, but I do not actually like the sound of it. It's very hard to shorten too.

Evangeline. Again. Less is more. Eva or Eve would be my choice. Eva Jeannie with Jeannie just being the middle name would be quirkier and more modest at the same time imo.

wombleprincess · 07/01/2009 19:46

georgiana sounds a bit pretentious in my very HO but others are lovely....

CantSleepWontSleep · 07/01/2009 19:52

I love Felicity. Ds most likely would have been one if he'd been a dd instead.

Penelope is nice.

Georgiana looks like you couldn't spell Georgina (which we also considered).

Evangeline does nothing for me.

Since we partially share taste, you may also want to consider Philippa.

wotulookinat · 07/01/2009 19:59

Georgina is nice. Not keen on the others.

georgimama · 07/01/2009 20:02

Georgiana is my favourite from that list, followed by Felicity.

I love names like this though. If I ever have a girl I am now toying with Verity. Can't imagine there are many about, but it is a real name, a pretty name and has a pretty meaning.

I'm also quite keen on Shakespearean heroine names: Perdita, Hero, Hermione (bit too associated with Harry Potter possibly), Cordelia etc etc

Poncey? Moi? Never.

IsaacsFabMummy · 07/01/2009 20:14

I think they are all beautiful names - Georgiana is top of the list IMO

RachePache · 07/01/2009 20:19

My sister is Felicity and she's always hated it. We're from a fairly middle middle family but she has always felt it far too posh and that people pigeonhole her before they've met her. She's universally Fliss. Apparently it was me as a toddler who suggested it to mum, and F has never really forgiven me.

RachePache · 07/01/2009 20:22

I'm a big fan of Georgina over Georgiana, though. Very underused at the moment (for some reason Georgia is more in vogue) and the delicious Georgie is a fabulous nickname.

bratnav · 08/01/2009 10:44

We definitely considered what the shortened versions would be, we love Penny, Georgie, Flick/Fliss but Evie is a problem as they are so common.

None of the DDs are called their full names, DD1 is Jenny, DD2 is Caity, DSD is V, so shortened versions are definitely an important consideration for us.

I like Phillipa, will suggest that to DP tonight.

My daughter is Penelope Alexandra (known as Penny except when naughty!) and I stumbled across this page by searching for Polly as a consideration for our second child! I love Pippa, Polly, Nancy and Lizzie at the moment. I also really love Delphine, Octavia, Araminta (Minnie for short) and Jemima (Mimi) but my other half's a builder and feels that I might be pushing it a bit with those!! xxx
P.S. Have you any suggestions for boy's names? I like Sebastian, Arthur and Tobias but they've all been put out of the running by the other half!!

Not Felicity, don't do it! I'm one and no one can spell it (even though it's in the dictionary). If they don't spell it with a P I either end up as solicitor or facility
Also, the meaning is utterly inappropriate as I'm a grumpy bugger.

My current favourites are Celestine and Alma but DP has vetoed both.

ADealingMummy · 03/02/2009 17:39

Really like Georgiana, and have considered Tatiana for my DD, which is similar.

BonsoirAnna · 03/02/2009 17:42

Love Georgiana.

ShowOfHands · 03/02/2009 17:57

I like all of them. How can people spell Felicity wrong? Agree about Evie as an abbreviation though.

What about...

Adriana
Ariadne
Philippa
Dorothea
Araminta (Minty)

amandine07 · 03/02/2009 18:56

I prefer Evangeline out of those options, Georgiana is a bit too posh sounding for my liking but Georgia or Georgie would be a cute alternative.

mrsdisorganised · 03/02/2009 18:59

We have a Georgina so obviuosly my favourite! Also like Evangeline.

mrsdisorganised · 03/02/2009 19:00
