Do you all like the name Samaya? Would be Maya for short most of the time.

And for middle name Alicia or Rose? I like Alicia as it's my mum's name, but not sure if Samaya Alicia sounds quite right?

DD2 is Maya Rose, I am not too keen on Samaya to be honest, why not just called her Maya?

How would you pronounce it? Sa-May-A or Sam-I-A

Chocolatedays · 03/01/2009 13:23

Yep - sounds fine to me. Like the potential to be Sam / Sammy too.
In reality you don't use the second name often so use whatever name you like.

backalleysally · 03/01/2009 13:24

Sorry I dont like it. Maya is a lovely name though.
Maya Rose is lovely.

matildax · 03/01/2009 13:30

not keen on samaya, sorry. like maya though.
pgwithnumber3... you must be due soon. have you decided on a name yet?. i keep see you on the baby names thread!!! lol happy new year. xx

Northernlurker · 03/01/2009 13:33

I'd just go for Maya. I actually know a Samaya - lovely person but it never seems like a proper name to me.

FairLadyRantALot · 03/01/2009 13:52

I quite like Samaya, and certainly prefer it over Maya (sorry to all Mayas, btw...), but Samaya Alicia might be a bit much, maybe Samaya Alice...and whilst Rose is lovely, it is just rather predictable as a middlename.

firstontheway · 03/01/2009 14:31

I like Maya more as a day to day name tbh, but wanted an arabic name as dh is arabic. That version is spelled Sumeyah but thought Samaya was a nicer spelling and lends itself to Maya a bit easier. Hmmm

Would be pronounced Sa-may-a

loobylu3 · 03/01/2009 14:37

Much prefer Maya to be honest. If you want an Aarbic name, there are lots of pretty ones that you wouldn't need to alter!

firstontheway · 03/01/2009 14:57

We like Layla also, which is on our shortlist.

But haven't found any others that i want to call my daughter, beautiful though they are

FairLadyRantALot · 03/01/2009 15:32

Layla is gorgeous

Nancy66 · 03/01/2009 15:34

sounds made up to me - might not be - but it sounds it

GrimmaTheNome · 03/01/2009 15:39

I think Samaya Rose sounds lovely. I've never heard Samaya before, but it sounds like a name to me. And the child gets the option whether to be a Maya or a Sam. Go for it!

FairLadyRantALot · 03/01/2009 15:49

Nancy it's an arabic name....

anyway, all names were made up at one fecking point...

MKG · 03/01/2009 16:37

I love it. I've seen the name Samaya or Samayah before. Samaya means "exalted".

Definitely go with Samaya Rose.

pgwithnumber3 · 03/01/2009 17:40

If your DH is Arabic then go for Samaya and shorten it to Maya. My Maya is fabulous!

matildax - LOL, name threads are where you find me atm, in a few weeks it will be the breast feeding threads. I am due in just over 4 weeks. I feel like I have never been pregnant. We have chosen Amelie Faye for DD3.

MrsMattie · 03/01/2009 17:42

It's OK. But if you like Maya, just use that. It's nicer.

Plonker · 03/01/2009 17:45

I think its beautiful. And she could always shorten it to Sami if she's not keen on Maya.

Samaya Rose is just gorgeous!

BabyBaby123 · 03/01/2009 19:10

it's quite nice - do you have cultural reasons for using it? I also liked Leyla for this baby but dp doesn't - we have now settled on another Arabic girls name - but for some reason girl's names seem to be harder than boys!

mamamila · 03/01/2009 20:23

I have a friend with a Samiya, she's always Sam or Sami, I prefer Samiya to Samaya. It's an arabic name

firstontheway · 03/01/2009 21:44

Babybaby- yes, my dh is arabic which is why we wanted an arabic name

OP posts:
mamamila · 04/01/2009 12:39

Other nice and unusual arabic names with S..Saraya, Sulhiya, Saada, Salma/ Selma or my favourite at the moment Naima

LiffeyAnnaLivia · 04/01/2009 13:44

It's ok, quite pretty, but I'd never pick it. Not at all a bad name though.

matildax · 06/01/2009 16:52

pgwithnumber3..... amelie faye is a beautiful name!! glad you have picked something eventually!!
all the very best with the rest of your pregnancy.
love matilda xx

lljkk · 06/01/2009 17:05

I think Summiyah could be a more standard spelling. We quite liked Somaya as an Anglicisation, but it's the name of a Puerto Rican porn star.
