names like Edie?

DH and I really like the name Edie, as in the diminutive for Edith. It seems to have the lot: old-fashioned granny cool, mixed with fashionable and cute-little-girly -ie ending.

However, some friends of ours have a daughter with the name already, and it is unusual enough that it would look like blatant copying (and indeed would be ).

Are there any similar-type names around?

Yeah, we do like Ava, also Iris (maybe).

I think eg Ruby, Kitty are too popular. DD1 has friends called Mabel, Ruby, Martha and Betsy.

We're trying to avoid top 100, though Ava is in there so I'm not being consistent.

Dulcie I like.

Wanda

Am just re-reading Lark Rise to Candleford and these are in there as the hot names of around 1888.

second Violet, or Viola.

Could shorten to Lettie if you like the "ie" thing.

Sylvie is v pretty

I really like Dulcie, Polly and Lois. Jeannie and Elsa are two that are v. pretty now that they're pointed out to me.

Sylvie is very y pretty, but I can see that one rising, ruby-style, as it's the new Sophie.

I love Edie but couldn't have it. We went for Edita, which is a variant of Edith, and she's currently known as Dita but can be Edie later if she wants.

MissisBoot · 03/01/2009 12:13

I love Elodie

I love Elsie at the moment!
