Is Vera unusable?

I've even changed my name to ask this just in case
I think it's pretty,with the up and coming popularity of the V names like Vivienne, Verity etc
Toyed with the idea of Elvira but it sounds a bit like a beauty product and in any case I'd be using Vera as the short version.
So what do you think?

Personally I don't like it. I just can't imagine it 'fitting' a little baby girl..

My aunties name also, and 'Duckworth' always rings in the back of my head when I hear it sorry!

Lovely, if you can forget the one from Corrie.
Although I remember my mother referring to older ladies named Vera as Vinegar Vera in the early 70s, not sure why.

Personally think it sounds a bit old fashioned. My Nans Violet, which I actually quite like, but she hates.

I like it but can't get rid of the Corrie link! I've got a Verity and my dad calls her 'V' just like Jack called Vera and I'm not keen!!

lovely name. it will come back. i reckon it will be weird for a little baby then she'll grow into it. ( i just gave our DD an unusual name and its growing on her beautifully)

Would it be Veronica shortened to Vera? Or just Vera.

I know a German girl in her 20s called Vera. One of the prettiest (and nicest) girls I have ever met.

I like Dora, but then a favourite Aunt of mine was called Dorcas and they shortened it too Dora.

Personally the only reason i don't like it is that FIL's 'fiance' is Vera and she is an old hag.

That isn't being snobbish or cruel either, she likes nothing more than to get very drunk (in her 60's) and then gets lewd and rude. She isn't well turned out and reminds me of a much harsher version of the Onslow family in Keeping Up Appearances!
So it's out for me.

Horrible. Was horrible in my gran's day, and horrible now.

My first association is Vera Wang. So I think of it as an über fashionable and cool name.

Most of the old names I think are frumpy but I ?get? this one. I also like Pearl and Iris.
