You already had a dd named Ava?
wanted to call dd2 Aoife, but stupidly listened to family members that said she would spend her life telling people how to pronounce it, and that nobody would ever be able to spell it (we are in London so wouldnt think that would be too much of a problem?)anyway, settled for Ava, which I do love, but not quite as much as Aoife, is it just too similar to Ava to use next time?

I have about 10 girls names I love btw, but this one just keeps popping up, I think I already know its too similar but just wondered what you lot thought!

Lani, Ava, Aoife/India go well IMO

Frumpy, that wont be necessary, my mum told me Erin was a funny name, and that she couldnt say it properly well if she cant get her head round whatever I decide this time she can just call it number 3

I love the name Aoife and if this one is a girl that's what she'll be called with Grace as a middle name.

My DH is Irish and my mum has already commented about us not choosing strange Irish names that no one can spell or pronounce. This thread has just reinforced our decision to ignore her!

To answer the op though, no I don't think you can have an Ava and an Aoife.

Eilidh is gorgeous !

Go girl! Ignore! One of my grannies physically turned her nose up when I told her what I was calling my DD1 (its a very normal, quite well used name). She looked like I had wafted dog poo an inch from her nose and said "oh, I don't like that, everyone will call her.....".

I called DD1 the name

lanismum · 28/12/2008 21:48

Ses, def ignore ignore ignore! 21 months on I still feel dd2 would have suited Aoife far more than Ava, my mum knows a few of the names I like, I have told her not to say a word about them either way, I have also had my nan telling me I cant call a baby Iris cos its too old ladyish, and come up with bluebell as an alternative

I adore Iris Its HOW you wear it.

Don't be influenced. You already regret one name, be strong with your next one.

SesHasnearlyreachedhalfway · 28/12/2008 21:55

Thanks

I guess whatever name anyone comes up with there'll always be people that don't like it - just look at all the name threads on MN!

My DH (who can't keep a secret to save his life) told my DB we were considering Aoife and my brother responded by saying we were going to name our child alcohol (ether). I don't care! They'll all get used to it within weeks (if it's a girl!!!)

What about Roisin? (pronounces Rosheen)

lanismum · 28/12/2008 22:15

Roisin is lovely, i'm not sure how well it goes with Lani and Ava though?I think girls are so easy to name, now boys.........if I have a boy he will def be called number 3!

oh yes, síofra is nice. Comes from a folk story about a fairly I think.

BucketsofReindeerPoo · 29/12/2008 17:58

Wasn't Sheefra the baddy in the new James Bond films?
Ava and Erin is ok. How about Saoirse (Seersha) or Sorcha(Sorica)?

LiffeyAgSnamhAnLaCoille · 29/12/2008 18:00

Was the baddy Irish? Erin will always be packet soup to me

BucketsofReindeerPoo · 29/12/2008 19:48

Nah French, Le Chiffre!

halfwayupthestairs · 08/03/2009 20:35

My DD2 is Aoife - pronounced Ee-fah - you get used to the pronunciation/spelling issues quickly & she knows how to spell it already (she's 3.5) so all's cool here. You like a name, you use it - other people's opinions, are just that - their opinions, the world would be boring if everyone thought the same...

MrsMattie · 09/03/2009 09:20

Aoife and Ava - NO
