OK, Let's start from scratch. Baby Girls Name (it's a long post)

Baby daughter just over 2 weeks old and still no progress on names. Both the wife and I had names we liked, but we can't agree.

I seem to like names derived from boys names like Charlotte and Harriet plus one that has significant meaning to me, Violet (a coincidence they all end with an 'et' sound?). Bizarrely before the birth I thought I liked Americanised names like Brooke and Logan (yeah, I know!).

The wife's list reads like the current top 10 . She likes Emily, Ella, Emma, Amy, Rosie, Imogen and the such.

So, ladies (and gentlemen), this is your mission...

We're not looking for thoughts on our existing ideas, but use them as a base to try and find us some new suggestions. Also try not to use variations of names we've suggested as we would have considered these.... Because, somewhere out there, there must be a name we've missed/overlooked that'll be perfect for our DD (there, I've finally used an acronym and then undone all the good by having a long sentence in brackets straight after!).

So to try and please us both the name would need to be a known name, maybe something old school and 'classic' but acceptable today and not too fuddy duddy, nothing that's too fashionable or of the moment. Something a little different but not bizarre. A name that people might know but not have met 5 others on the way down the garden path. The wife likes "eeee" sounds at the end of names - I'm not a fan, but would consider a shorter version of the actual name (which is why I thought the Charlotte/Lottie type thing could work). The wife would like a girlie/pretty name.

Sure there's criteria I've forgotten too!

Middle name will be Suzanne after the MIL (dec'd).

Apologies for the long post - but it's kinda important! Maybe I'll offer a cash reward

Cheers

Spacetrain, great list, who needs a name book!?

Claudia - excellent choice. Love it. Clio would be a cute nn! Love CW's hair. That's so relevant.
Isabella - sad reason why you can't use it, but I don't think you should just say, oh nobody owns a name. In these circumstances, let them own her name. Annabella would make a change and your wife likes Ella doesn't she?
Polly - Glad your wife likes this because it is SO much nicer than Molly imo! Very few pollys out there yet.
Zannah - I agree with your wife, weird!
Faith - You can faith in other things besides God! i always have faith that everything will work out fairly well in the end, whether it's what I planned or not. I have faith that the weather will be more good than bad despite everybody moaning! And I like Faith Shoes.
What about Joy? I love that! I am a Christian fwiw, but Christians wouldn't own 'Joy'
Romilly - "I LOVE Romy - not sure the wife does!" Work on her! It's lovely.
Eloise - like this. You could use Lois as a nn. I guess your wife wouldn't like that but if you had an Ellie relative your Eloise could be a Lois for an afternoon

Step DD is Annabel, which i love and i personally adore Isobel - but the two together is far too dramatic and samey!

Eloise i love

I have a colleague who has a daughter named Fleur (okay so he is French - but the name is adored by many!)

I also love Xanthe and Xanthia - although maybe a little too 'out there' for you?

Charlotte is too lovley and never ages.

I loved Ella - and it is a name within dp's family which holds a coat of arms - but became too popular around the time i had dd..

Ooh - I really like Claudia - you could shorten it to Dee if you want an 'ee' ending as well?
