Barbara - beyond awful, sorry
Margaret - yawn

Connie - not my cup of tea but inoffensive

Harry - fine
William - fine but a bit dull
Charles - nice
Francis - lovely
George - don't like it
Eric - really don't like it
Edward - love it

dinkymum · 21/12/2008 20:42

I like Maude, May, Iris, Margaret/Maggie, Lily, Connie, Harry, William, Charles, Francis, George, Edward.

Especially May and Lily, George and Edward.

I'm desperate to have George for bump but DH is fighting me all the way lol

Nancy66 · 21/12/2008 21:28

I like the boy's names but some of the girl's ones are a wee bit too old fashioned for me.

Barbara, Mavis and Ada are all ugly names. Not keen on Maude either.

LiffeySaysNollaigShona · 21/12/2008 21:31

Barbara is the only one that makes me heave.

Somebody the other day was thinking of siblings Billy and Susie. They had one already. Can't remember which. So retro.

LiffeySaysNollaigShona · 21/12/2008 21:32

That was unclear. I meant, I like all the names apart from Barbara which is obviously horrible.

prettybutterfly · 21/12/2008 21:39

Like your girls names better!

Francis lovely though.

LaDiDaDi · 21/12/2008 21:41

I like Ada, Iris and Connie for a girl and William, George and Edward for a boy.

prettybutterfly · 21/12/2008 22:03

Ivy is another good one - well ready for a re-run and very high up my (very theoretical) list.

superfrenchie1 · 21/12/2008 22:19

Oooh I have an Ivy. (selfishly hoping it doens't become too popular...ssshh)

we know a Maude and a Mabel and an Audrey too!

I love Iris, Ada, and also Pearl. They are all quite nice though. (Connie reminds me of that sound of music reality tv show?)

Not madly keen on your boys names though, except Harry - my best boys names are Sidney, Stanley, also quite like Billy. All teh more working class ones!

prettybutterfly · 21/12/2008 22:27

I could imagine having twin girls with cute curly brown hair and little mouths like rosebuds, and they would be called Ivy and Ada.

PlonkerTeatowelOnTheirHeads · 22/12/2008 01:26

Ok, so here are my first impressions:

Mavis - coronation street
Maude - stern faced and mean
Greta - cute, Garbo
May - may what?
Ada - old lady lost her wedding ring [ok so maybe it wouldn't remind everyone of that ...]
Iris - very pretty
Barbara - Good Lord No.
Margaret - i actually like this, Maggie is soooooo sweet
Lily - very very very very common popular. But lovely nonetheless.
Connie - sweet. like constance too.

Harry - slightly ruffled looking cute lad
William - one of my favourite boys names, lovely.
Charles - like charlie, charles just one step too far towards stuffy for me ...
Francis - too girly
George - good strong boys name
Eric - nooooooooooooo
Edward - lovely. a good solid boys name that can be shortened lovely too.

My favourites are Iris and Connie for a girl and William and Edward for a boy.

bubbles4 · 22/12/2008 01:28

love Harry but I,M biased as I have an adorable Harry.

SilkStockings · 22/12/2008 01:41

Greta is a form of Margaret. My DD is a Margaret. Can't believe someone mentioned M Thatcher - some people just can't seem to let her go.

MrsSeanBean · 22/12/2008 01:44

Not that keen on any of gthe girls' names tbh, although only barbara s truly dreadful.

I think it's about time Ethel had a revival.

All boy's names ok but Eric sits at the bottom of the pile for me.
