My BF is called Anna and she is an all round wonderful person. It's such a pretty name and not alot of them as far as I know.

Mia is nice and I don't know any (2 dc's - none in their classes)

Anna8888 · 19/12/2008 15:39

Anna is a lovely name

saadia · 19/12/2008 15:43

Anna is a really lovely name, there are countless Myas, Nyas Kias and Kaias at dss' school and at their tennis classes.

PinkPoinsettias · 19/12/2008 15:46

if bump is a girl we're going to use Maya

i'm not pushed about how common a name is, dd's is extremely common but i still love it and in reality she doesn't often meet anyone of the same name so it's not an issue really.

Sunflower100 · 19/12/2008 16:02

I do like Anna but we are leaning towards Maia as I have a cousin Anna. dd is Ella - is Anna too similar?

~In a word: yes....I know at least 6 of them (plus there's a constant row over how it should be pronnounced)

Anna is a gorgeous name: never met an Anna who wasn't a wonderful person

loobylu3 · 19/12/2008 17:32

We have a lovely 6 year old daughter called Maia. We named her Maia (Maya) as DH is Indian and it is a very traditional Sanskrit name. I wasn't expecting it to become popular in this country as I associate it with Indian children. However, Maja or Maia is used in Eastern Europe also so v multicultural really!
Maia is a lovely name and will suit a child or adult (although Anna is v nice too).

ilovegreenbeans · 19/12/2008 20:46

Yes! Please don't use it

ninah · 19/12/2008 20:50

aah we call my dd Anna short for Arianna. And yup, she's a cracker

BoccaDellaNativita · 19/12/2008 20:52

Yes it has!

nkf · 19/12/2008 20:52

Both names are nice though I prefer Anna.

peachygirl · 19/12/2008 20:54

I have a Maya and so far haven't met any others.

It is in the top 50 names... In the 40s IIRC, so still not that common.

I get lots and lots of comments about what a lovely unusual name it is.

loobylu3 · 19/12/2008 21:49

Hi, I just had a quick look at the birth registrations per name for 2007.
Actually, Maia is not that popular. It is number 201.
Maya stands at 79
Mia is 14
Mya 119

Therefore it is not that common (less so than Anna and far less so than Ella). I think it is just that there are several similar sounding names which are popular ie Mia.
Hope that helps!

MrsMattie · 19/12/2008 22:02

Maia, Mya, Maya, Maja (and Mia) - yes, over done (in London, anyhow...I know 6 little girls with variations of this name) - but I still think it is a gorgeous name.

Anna is lovely - a classic - but i think it'll be top 10 within the next year or two, so just go for what you like.

BoccaDellaNativita · 19/12/2008 22:07

Yes, maybe it's a London thing. There are zillions around here.

nappyaddict · 19/12/2008 22:09

yes. go for anna.

pamelat · 20/12/2008 20:03

Maia is nice, I only know 2 of them and they are 3 and 5 years old.

PlonkerTeatowelOnTheirHeads · 21/12/2008 00:00

There are lots more Anna's round these parts than there are Maia's and Mia's

Stick with Maia
