Quintus?

Now I'm not having anymore babies but I was reading a book last night and came across this name and just thought it was a fab name for a boy. So I thought I would chuck it in here and see if I'm totally deluded or if it is in fact quite charming?

Oh no.

Surely he would be Quint the Squint

KateF · 16/12/2008 16:50

Have you been reading Didius Falco?

Don't!

everGreensleeves · 16/12/2008 16:52

Try Quinn or Quintin instead?

NorthernLurkerwithastarontop · 16/12/2008 16:53

KateF - yes I have - aren't they great?

No I'm not going to use it (dh has done the decent thing) but I'm still oddly charmed by it....

arf, you are I'm afraid quite delusional.

MissisBoot · 16/12/2008 16:54

Definitely not - you can just imagine what it would be changed to.

KateF · 16/12/2008 17:47

I love the books and seriously considered Helena or Maia for dd3! However, I can't condone you inflicting Quintus on a helpless infant. How about Marcus?

NotanOtter · 16/12/2008 17:48

lovely!!!

mummiesnet · 16/12/2008 17:49

This place really is poncetastic.

WhileShosheWatchedHerFlocks · 16/12/2008 18:04

DD2 was Marcus, lovely name

MrsMattie · 16/12/2008 18:05

Truly awful.

sunnygirl1412 · 16/12/2008 18:10

Quintus, from the latin quintus, which translates as 'take me behind the bikesheds and duff me up.'

A friend of my mum had a granddaughter who, because she was the 10th grandchild, was called Decima. Mind you - she was a snotty piece so probably deserved a thumping..........

RoskvaTheRedNosedReindeer · 16/12/2008 18:15

With a name like Decima, she probably had good cause to be snotty ...

As for Quintus. No, please, not ever. It's great in fiction but not in real life.

sorkycake · 16/12/2008 18:33

WTF is wrong with the baby names section recently???
Everyone has gone crackers.

NO! unless you're a time travelling Roman.

NorthernLurkerwithastarontop · 16/12/2008 18:40

Ok, ok I get it.

Any views on Septimus, Augusta, Lucius, Titus and Antonia?

babster · 16/12/2008 18:57

Ooh... this brings back memories of the Cambridge Latin Course - Quintus est in horto. How about Grumio (after the drunken cook)?

poinsettydog · 16/12/2008 18:59

terrible name

wombleprincess · 16/12/2008 20:11

erm.... is it just me but didnt quim used to mean...

Anna8888 · 16/12/2008 20:12

No. It's horrid.

nkf · 16/12/2008 20:14

It's funnier even than Ptomely.

EachPeachPearMum · 16/12/2008 20:18

I love love love Septimus... but I'm NOT having 7 children just to get it...

NAO- there's your excuse for another

DH said 'veto' to it btw!

francagoestohollywood · 16/12/2008 20:22

Only if he'll be your fifth baby.

NorthernLurkerwithastarontop · 16/12/2008 20:27

franca - that aspect did cross my mind but I'm not planning on any more at all - let alone another two! Or four as would be needed for Septimus....

Is it really worse than Ptomely though? I'm a bit worried about my judgement tbh - my poncetastic compass seems to have slipped a bit.....
