dizzyjingles · 15/12/2008 23:53

personalli I LOVE LOVE LOVE it

but then I am a huge Anne of Green Gables fan

love the nn Gil and Bert

am also a closet fan of Herbert nn Herbie and Herb!

Have a friend whose ds is called this. I thought it was hideous when she named him and I still do 4 years later I'm afraid. Probably related to the fact that I had a slightly odd lecturer with this first name though, so it may just be me!

Love it..Beautiful name in my opinion.
And know the gorgeous Gilbert whose nn is Gilly.

EachPeachPearMum · 16/12/2008 00:01

Gilbert Blythe... yummy!

And Gilbert Grape- even tastier!

bessmum · 16/12/2008 00:01

A bit too far for me

EightiesChick · 16/12/2008 00:11

Makes me think of Gilbert Osmond from Henry James's ThePortraitofaLady. Not a good role model. But in isolation it's quite nice.

macwoozy · 16/12/2008 00:20

God no way

Bienchen · 16/12/2008 00:23

Only if your surname is O'Sullivan

Bienchen · 16/12/2008 00:24

Went to school with a G and his nickname was giblets - nice!

delightedoldbag34 · 16/12/2008 10:10

Gil is nicer.

audley · 16/12/2008 10:16

Adore Gilbert, with Gilly as nn. Not sure I'd be brave enough though

branflake81 · 16/12/2008 10:26

Faintly ridiculous. Don't think I could take a Gilbert serioulsy.

Amani · 16/12/2008 10:28

erm, no

BabyBaby123 · 16/12/2008 10:29

terrible - truly terrible

piscesmoon · 16/12/2008 10:46

It was the name of my cat-I wouldn't give it to a human!

CountessDracula · 16/12/2008 10:51

It makes me think of rugby balls

VersdeSociete · 16/12/2008 10:56

No. There are so many names. What about Clement or Ernest or Lytton. Slightly similar feel but nicer? Actually would have liked to call one of my DSes Evelyn but could nto sell it...

samsonara · 16/12/2008 11:11

Me too love the Gilbert Blythe connection. I think it's a name which is under used.

MrsMattie · 16/12/2008 11:21

Nah

snackattack · 16/12/2008 11:27

Sorry, really don't like it.

Boco · 16/12/2008 11:30

I love it. I know a baby Gil and it really suits him. And I love Gilbert Grape.

Tidey · 16/12/2008 11:56

Sounds like a penis nickname, along the same lines as Ralph from Forever. I doubt anyone will agree, but it was my first thought. Actually, that's rather worrying isn't it? Ignore me.

saintmaybe · 16/12/2008 12:06

like it
