But don't you think Sumer is so much worse. It is a proper word spelt incorrectly and if you must name your child Zenon (an inert gas??!!!) why not spell it correctly - Xenon??

Liala - I wouldn't know how to prononuce it? Is it meant to be Layla or just a made up name??

grumpalina · 14/12/2008 14:19

And yes it does cause me great pain. i will now have to hide this thread

HarktheheraldAnglepoise · 14/12/2008 14:20

I assumed it was supposed to be Laila though admit I am flummoxed by Grzegorz.

Is Lean supposed to be Lee-Anne (not actually sure how you'd spell that )? What if she's fat?

Eila = Isla?
Lowis
Safiyah

Sorry, I can't look away (they seem to keep changing as well)

Layla/Laila is an arabic name therefore you can spell it any way you like with the alphabet we are currently using.

Nancy66 · 14/12/2008 14:29

I'm not going to look it will put me in a bad mood for the rest of the day.

SmilePlease · 14/12/2008 17:43

My brother is called Zenon! And Xenon is the one thats in the periodic table! Not the other way round.

TheMuppetsChristmasMuggle · 14/12/2008 17:47

littlelamb · 14/12/2008 17:49

BexieID · 14/12/2008 17:50

One of the girls names I like is on the list. Kaede.

CharCharGaboriaInExcelsisDeo · 14/12/2008 17:51

Haisie? Seriously? How wishy-washy is that?!

FromGirders · 14/12/2008 17:51

Grzegorz is Polish and fairly common there. I've known a few of them. Very hard to pronounce properly.

goldFAQinsenceandmyrrh · 14/12/2008 17:55

Grzegorz = Polish

Do a google for it - there are nearly 14 million resulsts for it

Tommas - also on that list probably also Polish (I poted Tomas on a thread the other day and I'm sure someone reminded me it was the Polish spelling)

edam · 14/12/2008 17:55

Pity the poor boy given 'willi' as a middle name. Imagine when his classmates find that out...

HarktheheraldAnglepoise · 14/12/2008 18:02

I thought Grzegorz either had to be Polish or belong to someone with a hair-trigger z key

I think a fair few of those "new" names are merely forrin. Some of them are brilliantly silly though.

PS I've seen (and like) Tomas but never Tommas.

LynetteScavo · 14/12/2008 18:13

I for a boy.

So how is that pronounced?

prettybutterfly · 14/12/2008 23:51

Althie??

fortyplus · 14/12/2008 23:55

I know about the parents of Alban!!!

They are a young couple who are members of the 'Exclusive Brethren' sect. They named him after Saint Alban!

They won't be reading this, though, cos they don't use computers!

Some of the other names are crackers, though, aren't they?

Poor kids - a life time of How do you spell that?

vlc · 15/12/2008 00:24

"Pricilla"

nooka · 15/12/2008 00:44

How are these popular names? I can see that a single family might madly decide to call their child Alexander willi, but enough to get into a list? and Hedi??

It's a very peculiar list IMO with the weird next to the very traditional. I wonder how it was derived.

nooka · 15/12/2008 00:47

Zenon is Ancient Greek/Polish though, and there are probably a few more Polish names in that list. Not sure where the extra "m" in Tommas comes from. None of the versions of Thomas have two m's that I can find.

aturkeyisjustforchristmas · 15/12/2008 07:38

This is probably the result of that Bounty woman who comes to see you after you have a baby in hospital. Didn't everyone else get this pleasure? you get brought bags of crap (apart from the child benefit form) and... asked your baby's name. I wondered why, is this the reason! I refused to give her any of my personal details though, she had no answer when i asked why she required them... I suspect it was so she could pass them on to Pampers and the like to then fill my doormat up with crap too.

AnarchyInAManger · 15/12/2008 07:52

She never came to see me (homebirth).

You'd all have had a field day with DD's full name too

BabyBaby123 · 15/12/2008 09:37

i think these names are just names of children of Bounty members - they have entered them on their membership information and then for some strange reason they make a top names list - they are just one offs which haven't been mentioned before. Alot of them look like someone's having a laugh and just putting in fake names tbh
