Zach or Zachary?

Do you think that Zach on it's own suffices as a name? Or should I use the more proper Zachary, and then shorten to Zach?

Zaccharius?

Pinkjennybellrock · 11/12/2008 15:03

I would go with Zachary, so he has the option of using either.

SpaceTrain · 11/12/2008 16:00

Don't like Zacharius, but thanks for the suggestion.I don't mind Zachary as a name, but love Zach so know we'd only ever call him that. I'm torn between not giving an unnecessary full name if it will never be used, and giving him the option of a longer name as PinkJenny suggests.

Referencing another thread, clearly my name is Jenny , but I do wish my parents had called me Jennifer, just so I had the choice.

isanybodythere · 11/12/2008 21:15

Definitely Zachary, shortened to Zach.

pushkar · 11/12/2008 21:19

my son is called zachary and we call him zach
i nearly called him zavier, but his dad preferred zachary!

bramblebooks · 11/12/2008 21:26

My son is Zachary and we call him Zac.

suwoodolf · 11/12/2008 21:33

Jen. My cousin is called Jenny and seems to get 'formalised' to Jennifer a lot by misguided people.I reckon stupid people just call you what they think your name is anyway.

Hulababy · 11/12/2008 21:35

I would use Zachary, Zachariah, etc and then Zack as nn

piscesmoon · 11/12/2008 21:49

I think it would be normal to assume that Jenny is Jennifer, the same way you would assume Jackie is Jacqueline or Lizzie is Elizabeth. Much less explaining is necessary if you give them the formal one and then shorten it.

BikeRunSki · 11/12/2008 22:35

Stupid people do indeed call you what they think you are called. A lot of people call me Alison. I have given up trying to tell them it is Alice, and always has been.

nooka · 11/12/2008 22:47

I like Zachariah better. Fab name I don't like diminutives as given names, because it is nice to have a bit of choice in life, and I value formality (I always use the full version of my name for example).

SantaGotStuckUpThePelvicfloor · 11/12/2008 22:49

Zachary was my boys name choice.
Great name and as you say shorten it to Zach.

jellybeans · 11/12/2008 23:01

I prefer just Zac or Zak. If you will always call him that then don't bother with long version. If you do, teachers/doctors etc will call him long name.

PlonkerTeatowelOnTheirHeads · 11/12/2008 23:01

Zachary - shortened to Zac. Love it. Was on my list for all my dd's

colander · 11/12/2008 23:16

Zachary and shorten it....but bear in mind Zac Efron - there may be a few Zacs around like there were Jasons and Kylies in the 80s
