What do you all think of Elouise for a girl?

You can't possibly worry about whether a name sounds good in french or not unless you have french affiliations though. Otherwise you would have to take into consideration all other nationalities!

EG Kevin was very popular in France not so long ago...

Nancy66 · 10/12/2008 16:35

Pauline is also really popular in France !

CoteDAzur · 10/12/2008 20:05

Oh come on Anna

Chavvy in France is Anglophone names for French babies, especially when parents can't spell/pronounce them properly.

Kevin
Dylan
Jason (invariably pronounced "Je-zen")
Jenifer [sic]
etc

"I saw a name in a movie bla bla bla"

I met a girl who named her boy Sloane and pronounces it with three syllables fgs. Suh-low-on

Well, Eloise is the anglicized version of Héloïse (as in the American children's books). So I think you are just confirming what I said .

crazyloon1 · 11/12/2008 09:08

Sorry, it isn't my cup of tea - but is better without the 'U'. Louise with a U always reads a bit like 'louse' to me. But i am not sane so ignore me.

Anna8888 · 11/12/2008 09:08

Sloane is taken from a French comic character, btw. A vile name, I quite agree, but it isn't taken from English (as in Sloane Ranger).

CoteDAzur · 11/12/2008 13:00

This French mum says she chose the name because she likes "Dr Sloan" in Grey's Anatomy

Turniphead1 · 13/12/2008 15:46

Hey Pregapuss there is a lady here whose first DD is called Elouise. She might be good to ask if she has any problem with Eloise/Elouise confusion or whether your preferred spelling is actually easier (despite what all us grumpy traditionalists felt ). Best of luck.

Clumsy. Clunky. Eloise has natural flow. Elouise is wrong. It sounds nearly like a split name; E-Louise. Eloise is very nice as it is, albeit popular.
