Okay there are worse.. but any nice, pretty, delicate names that I pick, are slightly ruined by the surname 'Savage'..

No idea what babs is yet, so open to boy or girl name suggestions! Good luck

I know someone called Ian Savage, I thought that was nice together.

Hulababy · 07/12/2008 20:12

I would just go ffor the pretty names, along with a nice middle name and not worry too much about the surname. Savage isn't too bad TBH. I would just avoid anything too hardsh, as the surname is a harsh sounding name as it is.

Or something traditional such as Charles, Edward, Matilda, etc.

storkycake · 07/12/2008 20:12

don't choose lily whatever you do.

skidoodle · 07/12/2008 20:14

Anne?

Claire?

Something pretty but plain maybe?

Savage is not that bad once you get used to it.it's quite common where I'm from

No chance of using your surname?

SheWillBeLoved · 07/12/2008 20:22

Mine is just as bad and after a lifetime of people mispronouncing it - I couldn't bring myself to do it

I know Savage is not that bad, it goes with some names. . it just sounds very harsh as Hulababy said and so doesn't flow too well with names that i've suggested.

I also know that the more traditional names are fashionable right now, but I don't quite think that I could call my child something so traditional that it almost sounds odd that such a young person is called that iykwim

Perhaps if you chose an alliterative name it would soften the surname?

so,

Serena Savage
Sally Savage
Susie Savage
Rosie Savage

Sean Savage

etc etc

though personally I don't think it's a bad surname at all, quite dashing in fact!

Beauregard · 07/12/2008 20:35

Freddie?
William?

SnowballsintheSky · 07/12/2008 20:38

I was expecting your name to be Arsewipe or something

mooseloose · 07/12/2008 20:41

I don't think its a problem name at all. I would have thought most names would go with it. If it were my name i don't think I would be worried...

SheWillBeLoved · 07/12/2008 20:42

You think so Harpo? I just think it sounds so mean and "grrr"..

I've always liked Evie or Gracie for a girl, and Elliot for a boy but when I say them out loud, it just doesn't fit?

skidoodle · 07/12/2008 20:43

and not fred savage either

SheWillBeLoved · 07/12/2008 20:44

I feel awful now I know it's not a terrible name, I know of worse, it's just terrible to me as it's ruining the names i've had on my "childrens name list" that i've had since I was 15

Savage is a great surname - it has personality .

So you need a name with lots of personality to carry it off. Don't go for something in the top 100.

I would go for something long - Cassandra?

controlfreakyhohohohohohoho · 07/12/2008 20:45

well you really should have thought of that before you agreed to change your name.....

harpomarx · 07/12/2008 20:45

ok, sally savage not great... now I'm LOLing too. Smacks of porn name....

maybe ditch the alliteration thing!

chequersandroastedchestnuts · 07/12/2008 20:45

Clara Savage?

skidoodle · 07/12/2008 20:48

actually not sure why I said no fred savage. I was thinking of fred off corrie, but he's elliot

MrsGokWan · 07/12/2008 20:48

Randall?

pooka · 07/12/2008 20:49

Lucy Savage?

Could you do a hyacinth and call yourself "sav-ahge" like a posh gar-ahge?

Or change names to Sauvage.

I can think of far worse names. But do agree that it sounds a little bit grr.

LiberalIdleOlogy · 07/12/2008 20:51

Go for as many syllables as you can. People are then likely to have lost interest before reaching the surname (which is really not so bad by the way).

wastingmyeducation · 07/12/2008 20:51

I think Elliot Savage is nice. Dr. Elliot Savage, yeah that has a nice ring to it!

chequersandroastedchestnuts · 07/12/2008 20:52

Isn't Fred Savage the little guy off the Wonder Years?

chequersandroastedchestnuts · 07/12/2008 20:53

Fred Savage

SheWillBeLoved · 07/12/2008 20:53

Controlfreaky - I haven't changed my name, we aren't married yet. I'd just like my child to have it's fathers surname.

Pooka - i've joked about doing a Hyacinth only to be met with DP's unamused glare
