SheWillBeLoved · 07/12/2008 20:10

Okay there are worse.. but any nice, pretty, delicate names that I pick, are slightly ruined by the surname 'Savage'..

No idea what babs is yet, so open to boy or girl name suggestions! Good luck

I think quite 'soft' sounds in the first name go well with Savage. eg. Emily, Olivia, Oliver.

Botbot · 18/12/2008 09:16

I like the three-syllable approach too. Elizabeth Savage sounds lovely.

crazyloon1 · 18/12/2008 09:23

I knew a Dave Savage. He was really funny.

Obv avoid lily.

Try to think of the meaning - I think poss derives from French 'wisdom' as in sauvage

so not because his ancestors ate humans iyswim..

crazyloon1 · 18/12/2008 09:24

Crikey I am thick. Of course it doesn't mean wisdom. It means wild.

Anna - shoot me now

but wild is good...

FCH · 18/12/2008 09:33

I know an Alex Savage (at work) - very successful and highly thought of - never thought "ooh - savage" and works for girl or boy...

Grammaticus · 18/12/2008 09:43

I agree with nooka - longer more noticeable names work better

frimblypoo · 18/12/2008 15:34

nothing wrong with Savage at all!
My husband's initials and surname form a very vulgar word for 'lady garden' Postman must wet himself every morning when he delivers our mail

CrushaGrape · 18/12/2008 15:46

There was a crazed restaurant owner called Peter Savage in one of the later Adrian Mole books, so I'd avoid that.

Covergirl · 18/12/2008 15:54

OK, call me radical, but is it your surname or your husbands'? There's no law that says your children HAVE to have the fathers' surname even if you are married. Taking mens names automatically and without thought bows down to patriarchal stereotypes IMHO! Just a thought .

jinglebongo · 18/12/2008 15:54

Rose Marie Savage
Jessica Anne Savage
Michelle Anne Savage

Benjamin Arthur Savage
Elliot James Savage

Love the name Elliot - I dont think its that tricky a name - you should try mine "Brunt" you can imagine as a teacher what that was changed into!

SheWillBeLoved · 18/12/2008 16:07

Didn't know this thread had come back to life

Covergirl - we aren't married yet, and I know there's no law but I just think it's a nice gesture and will save faffing about changing names when I do get round to attatching my ball and chain to his ankle

DP keeps on mentioning Jaime for a girl, it's said just the same as Jamie.. but spelt different. Don't know if i'm keen on it to be honest, and I don't know if people will automatically say it how it's supposed to be said, complete with a dodgy french accent

He's not keen on 'traditional' names, and is quite positive that it's cruel to call a child and old persons name this is going to be a struggle

I'm interested in what you mean when you say 'a nice gesture'. I get the distinct impression that many women feel they have to 'give' something to their men when they have their babies - isn't the baby enough?! Is it a subconscious desire to appease men because they can't give birth? I'm not trying to be arsey - don't get me wrong, I just think that we do things sometimes and don't really know the reasons. I was married for the first time about 20 years ago and wanted to change my name to his. DD1 has his name also - seemed sensible as it was the same name as mine at the time, too!! We divorced and I met another guy with whom I had two more children. We're very happy but something clicked when I was pregnant with DD2 (my first with new man) when my mum asked what my partner's surname was - basically to find out if it was a stinker, I think! But it suddenly occurred to me that it didn't matter what his name was because why should the baby have his name automatically? I love my (now husband actually!) deeply but I didn't see why my baby couldn't have my surname. So, DD2 and DS1 have my surname. We have since married and none of us have changed our names - much to the consternation of many women, I notice, but NO men have ever thought it was out of order funnily enough (least of all my husband!!). Just a different point of view for you to contemplate! Hope you're happy with whatever you choose .

MuchLessTiredNow · 18/12/2008 16:47

I was good friends with a Simon Savage, and never thought any more of the surname than Smith until you mentioned it now - he remains one of my favourite people. I think his sister was called Beth, which is v pretty.

Sugarkane · 18/12/2008 18:17

Your lucky my name is bad and my partners is even worse. The best thing to do is pick your fav and say the full name over an over after a few times it will flow much better in ur mind, an u wont care what others think.

ARAG · 18/12/2008 18:49

I agree with Sugarkane's advice.

TooMuchMakkaPakka · 23/12/2008 01:02

Don't use Robbie Savage, he's not a footballer who's going to win any fair play awards.
Elliot or Oliver both sound good with it.

MadamDeathstarOverBethlehem · 23/12/2008 04:56

Dominic?
Oscar?

BucketsofReindeerPoo · 23/12/2008 16:04

A girl's name ending in 'a' would go well with Savage.

Wolfblass · 27/12/2008 19:04

Ebony
Isobel
Imogen
Gracie
Annabel
Evie
Amelia
Jasmine

atleast you are not stuck with Wellard!!!!

ARAG · 06/01/2009 20:14

I'm curious where you've landed, SheWillBeLoved....

Good luck to you!!!

Megglevache · 06/01/2009 20:17

OMGosh I think savage is a brilliant surname, I thought you were going to say Ticklybumm or something

TheFallenMadonna · 06/01/2009 20:18

Savage is a great surname. I would love it.

LiffeyAnnaLivia · 06/01/2009 21:07

Fred Savage doesn't sound bad !

Laura or Emily or Clara or Eleanor or Anna.
