i think theres nowt wrong with calling your daughter giz

i think her second name should be face

lovelysongbirdfliessouth · 30/11/2008 15:10

i wouldn't call her gizzy, only giselle.

but the thought of others shortening it to gis puts me off.

dh said no one calls it giz anymore.

absolutely not. Gism. Sorry. I don't want to be crude. But you are forcing me.

TheNewsMongersGeansaiNollag · 30/11/2008 15:20

What about Zelda? Some of the same sounds, no smutty inuendo, and it's a bit clahahahasssssier in my humble opinion.

funnypeculiar · 30/11/2008 15:28

Oh dear - came on to say love it, but obviously haven't thought the shortening through. I guess you could shorten it to ella in a desparate attempt to pre-empt the horror....??

SoupDragon · 30/11/2008 15:29

Shorten it to Elle?

lovelysongbirdfliessouth · 30/11/2008 15:30

do you think people always shorten and mess about with names?
or would you always be going its not gis its giselle

OP posts:
lovelysongbirdfliessouth · 30/11/2008 15:30

Yes, people nearly always shorten names (ime). Which doesn't mean that YOU will as a family (my mum stilll calls me by my full name, but she is now the only person...
Unfortunetly, I don't think you have much control over shortenings, but if you get something in fast, I reckon it gives you a fighting chance.
I'm assuming you know the beautiful ballet connotations as well?

Katisha · 30/11/2008 15:34

Yes it doesn't go terribly well for the Giselle in the ballet though...

funnypeculiar · 30/11/2008 15:35

Very true, katisha

lovelysongbirdfliessouth · 30/11/2008 15:38

yes i know the ballet.

and i love the name giselle, just don't like it shortended

is there a giselle in some disney princess movie too?

A gorgeous name. No need to shorten it, really, although I quite like Gigi.
