are those names too similar?
We are thinking Anna or Sasha... any other ideas for similar style names?

They are a bit similar, but why not, if you like the name.

HangingbaublesofBethlehem · 25/11/2008 17:31

I think the sounding similar bit is quite cute - me and my 2 sisters all have names ending in 'ee' sound. I have an Emma and a Heather, I think they are lovely names together. Also considered Hannah but it was too popular that year and we're glad we made the choices we did.

NorthernLurker · 25/11/2008 17:31

anna is to similar imo. You run the risk of people getting muddled and addressingn your dd as enema!

What about Annabel?

Bumblelion · 25/11/2008 17:33

I have two girls, Ashly and Sasha, 16 and 7, with a Daniel in between.

All 3 names, said together, sound fine but the two girls on their own are too similar and my mum is always calling them by the wrong 'shortened' name.

Hey ho, when they grow up, I will hardly ever call them at the same time, and even now when I do call them, say, for dinner, there is always Dan in between.

mary

Yup, I think Emma and Anna are too similar. Both lovely names, though .

stayinbed · 25/11/2008 17:36

Bumblelion - Sasha ashlwy and danielle are all names we really like.

Emma is 2 so i don't want her to get upset that her new baby sister has a similar name!!

It's really hard to say 'Emma and Anna', and you will need to say the two names together frequently. Could you go for Anne instead?

LaDiDaDi · 25/11/2008 17:42

Too similar imo.

My friend at uni (Anna) lived with an Emma and she said that you could never tell what name people were calling up the stairs etc.

moshie · 25/11/2008 17:42

Love Sasha, goes better with Emma than Anna ( nice name though )

nooka · 25/11/2008 17:43

Emma and Anna is too much of a mouthful for me too. Emma and Ann(e) sounds better, and Emma and Sasha is fine too.

ElfOnTheTopShelf · 25/11/2008 17:46

I'm Emma and I work in an office with an Anna, there is also a Yana and an Amanda and it gets a little confusing.
People on the phone always say "oh, I wanted to talk to Emma" and I have to say it is Emma as they assume they have gotten Anna or vice versa.

Nice names though!

TheNewsMongrel · 25/11/2008 18:42

I think Anya rather than Anna would work.
Or Annie. I love Annie. It's so fresh and sweet. ykwim?

Sasha is beautiful but as one of Barack Obamas dd's is Sasha I think it's going to go MASSIVE. Annie or Anya gmv.

Anna and Emma just a bit too similar, imo.

Although lots of people have an ellie and a lily or a holly and a tilly (davina mcCall) kerry katona has a molly and a lily!

Majeika · 25/11/2008 18:44

Annabel and Emma
Annie and Emma
Annabella and Emma
Grace and Emma
Beatrice and Emma
Ciara and Emma
Amelia and Emma
Isabelle and Emma
Imogen and Emma
Sophie and Emma

IllegallyBrunette · 25/11/2008 18:45

I also think they are too similar though.

What about Alice ? That goes lovely with Emma.

pointydog · 25/11/2008 18:54

too similar.

Plonker · 25/11/2008 19:00

I know an Emma and a Hannah. I haven't ever thought the names were too similar ...I always thought they go together well

DontCallMeBaby · 25/11/2008 19:29

You will constantly get the wrong child when you shout for them. I have a monosyllabic name, ends with an 'n', my brother's shortened form is also one syllable, but ends in 'm'. And our parents were always getting the wrong child responding (usually me, DB was away with the fairies most of the time), Anna and Emma would produce that effect with knobs on.

Wheelybug · 25/11/2008 19:33

Too similar I think - I have an Anna and a close friend has an Emma - both the same age and play together. Even though one of them is mine I get their names confused all the time when calling them (maybe I am a bit dim though ).
