everyone knows his name....

Fimbo · 25/11/2008 16:34

There is one in ds's year. It kind of suits him but he is commonly known as Rupes. It is also the name of dd's friend's dad.

piratecat · 25/11/2008 16:35

not keen tbh

grouchyoscar · 25/11/2008 16:35

Rupert is great

It's the jockey Ruby Walsh's real first name

Go for it

Kathyis6incheshigh · 25/11/2008 16:36

too, too posh.

Hulababy · 25/11/2008 16:39

I am not keen sorry.

I knnew of an adult called Rupert. he was a teacher. After qualifying and going through teaching practise he decided to change his professional name to Simon (IIRR) as he got far too much abuse being called Rupert.

LuLuBai · 25/11/2008 16:44

I really love it!

MarmadukeScarlet · 25/11/2008 16:48

I love it.

I am assuming you are posh to even consider it? I have a boy with a posh name too, but my DH wouldn't allow Rupert,

It reminds me of floppy haired boys that used to sneak over the convent wall when I was at school .

moondog · 25/11/2008 16:50

wet

falcon · 25/11/2008 16:51

I rather like it, though I'm not sure that I'd use it.

And what's wrong with 'posh' names anyway?

Slouchy · 25/11/2008 16:52

nice trousers

nigglewiggle · 25/11/2008 16:53

Sounds a bit nerdy to me, sorry.

NogginOfRum · 25/11/2008 18:38

ooo i love Rupert. Really wanted to call DS this but nobody else liked it.

I love the name i did pick in the end but still think about Rupert.

Would have used the nickname Roo

TheNewsMongrel · 25/11/2008 18:46

It's like Quentin or Crispin or Neville.

I don't really know why I consider it so effeminate and teaseworthy, but I do.

LaDiDaDi · 25/11/2008 18:47

I like it, just don't ever put him in tartan trousers.

colander · 25/11/2008 18:48

just makes me think of Jilly Cooper

I do read proper books too

Majeika · 25/11/2008 18:51

No!

what if he is a big rugby type chap called a wet name like Rupert!

No no no!

Wet, effeminate, open to teasing,nerdy.

Really dont do it. Please.

in the same genre as Tristan or Quentin.

pointydog · 25/11/2008 18:55

fotherington-thomas

piscesmoon · 25/11/2008 18:55

I used to live next door to a cat called Rupert, I thought it was a good name-for a cat.

Spidermama · 25/11/2008 18:58

I too think it's nobtastic. That said, there aren't many of them around (certainly not in my social circle ) and I do love the Roo abbreviation. It would probably grow on me if I met a child called Rupert and perhaps then I'd forget the adult association with the name. Haw haw haw.

falcon · 25/11/2008 18:59

I love Tristan and Quentin.

RetiredGoth2 · 25/11/2008 19:09

Ah! splendid!

frazzledoldbag34 · 25/11/2008 19:25

I love Rupert.
In fact it's on my list for impending DC3.
It is, however NOT on DH's list - he thinks it's ridiculous and poncey.
(and I fear that many of my friends and relations (on DH's side obviously) would agree and I'd get teased if I use it).

Am quite tempted though - if it's a boy.
If you love it, and you manage to pursuade your DH then do it!

Majeika · 25/11/2008 19:25

sorry Falcon

Bluestocking · 25/11/2008 19:37

Awful. I work with undergraduates and have just met two Ruperts, one so wet you could wring him out and one obnoxiously little lump of arrogant knobcheese. Which, oddly enough, are the two personalities I would associate with the name.
