I've known quite a few Ruperts of all generations. Not one of them wet. In fact one of them was a 6'2" bad boy bruiser (and extremely sexy - mmmm just remembering.....)

Opinions · 25/11/2008 19:43

Not really keen on it, sorry.

TooMuchMakkaPakka · 25/11/2008 20:36

I really like it. The actor rupert perry-jones (who was in spooks) is gorgeous too! But it does have posh connotations so depending on where you live and who your child associates with it could be a bit of an issue (he would probably need a nickname if he goes to work on a building site when older - we tried to pick names that would be good for both boardroom and building site to cover all possible future DS choices but that can mean names get a bit boring).

cheesesarnie · 25/11/2008 20:38

i like it.

nickytwotimes · 25/11/2008 20:38

Not keen either, I'm afraid.

Bit too posh for the likes o' me.

falcon · 25/11/2008 20:41

Edward works very well for the board room/building site possiblity imho.

NotanOtter · 25/11/2008 20:43

we have a room in our house called Ruperts room because the previous owner had a little boy Rupert

His name was the envy of many friends

she also had an Arthur and a Joshua

kitsmummy · 25/11/2008 20:52

Love it love it love it, but was struck off my list by DH - seems pretty much universally dismissed by men!

poshtottie · 25/11/2008 21:10

If I had another ds it would be Rupert. DH wasn't keen as he said it was an army officers name.

nooka · 25/11/2008 21:13

I have a cousin called Rupert. He isn't wet, effeminate, a nerd, or obnoxious. In fact he is very courageous. So it isn't an eventuality! I have a feeling that his siblings names might be termed nobtastic by some though

swingsofglory · 25/11/2008 21:13

Don't do it. It just screams BEAR.

NotanOtter · 25/11/2008 21:16

it does not scream bear one iota to me

maybe thats becaue i know a little boy and he is - just that - a little boy

I like it. It reminds me of Rupert Campbell-Black from the Jilly Cooper books, he was a dashing b'stard so I don't think of it as a wimpy, wet name. Just v public school.

seeker · 25/11/2008 23:38

I think it depends a bit where he's going to go to school. Colet Court/St Paul's - fine. Gas Works Road Primary and Bogstandard Comprehensive - not so fine.

It's a very "labelling" name, IMHO - and you want them to be able to make their own labels, rather than starting life with one permanently attached.

othersideofchannel · 26/11/2008 10:17

Can someone please explain to me (I'm originally French) what is wrong and teaseworth (if anything) about Quentin?

Its ny nephew's name and he is adorable and very popular. In fact all the Quentin's I know are really 'cool'. Think also Quentin Tarantino etc.

onthewarpath · 26/11/2008 10:23

Love Rupert.

sonniboo · 26/11/2008 10:46

I know a lovely little Rupert called Roo.

I like Quentin a lot - its a masculine sounding, traditional name. Certainly don't find it teaseworthy.

Nighbynight · 26/11/2008 11:40

It is a lovely name, but just make sure you can afford to send him to private school

LuLuBai · 26/11/2008 12:55

Othersideofthechannel - there is nothing wrong with Quentin at all. Or Rupert. Both good names.

elsiepiddock · 26/11/2008 12:58

I know 3. (Must live in a poncetastic area..)

I quite like it.

choccywoccydoodah · 26/11/2008 18:28

Thanks for all of those who have taken the time to reply. I agree I think of the bear (not a bad thing) and Rupert C-B in all those Jilly Cooper books (def a good thing)!

DH thinks it sounds wet floppy haired and a bit chinless and whilst we live in a nice area we are definitely not posh or upper class. DH is also concerned about excessive teasing in the playground . . . .
so this is still on the maybe list I think.

Thanks again!

I my dad would always tell people his name was Rupert for a laugh! It's a name that makes people laugh out loud! lmao.

Peapodlovescuddles · 27/11/2008 23:10

I know a Rupert,he was a rower and a bit of a ladies man and university!
His sisters are Camilla, Augusta, India and... Ashley (I never thought Ashley fitted in with the rest of the names) All 5 are in their late 30s/early 40s now.

VerifiedLU4097 · 28/11/2008 08:40

I know 2 ruperts and they are both really cool, and pretty tough. If you're going to name a kid it, just make sure his school isn't an inner city comp....
