Absolutely NOT Aimee (at least with that spelling anyway)

Isla is probably my favourite of those.

Isla is my favourite of your choices & Aimee my least favourite.

moondog · 16/11/2008 18:18

Aimee is chavvy.
Aisla ok. V popular these days though.

shootfromthehip · 16/11/2008 18:20

Isla end eloise. Loved the later for DC 2 but was a boy

colander · 16/11/2008 18:36

I personally find Eloise chavvy, but maybe that is just me

Amy please, not Aimee unless you are French

Sohpie is ok, but Isla is my favourite from your list.

RachieB · 16/11/2008 20:24

I like

  1. Isla
  2. Eloise
  3. Sophie
  4. Aimee

only really like the first 2 though, too many sophies and both Sophie and aimee a bit too "girly" for me

Lukesmammy · 16/11/2008 20:36

eloise and sophie are my faves. Isla becoming too popular and don't like the aimee spelling.

mumof3bs1more · 16/11/2008 20:57

Hi,
I love Sophie and think isla is ok personally i wouldnt go for aimee as i just think its so common also a litlle plain.I'm just not keen on eloise as i really dont like louise as a name! Good luck finding your perfect name!

scorpio1 · 16/11/2008 20:58

I adore Eloise

second Isla, then Sophie then Aimee. Think you may have spelling issue with Aimee.

Hulababy · 16/11/2008 20:59

In this order:

Sophie
Aimee
Isla
Eloise

I prefer the French spelling of Aimee to Amy, which to me looks too harsh.

Dottoressa · 16/11/2008 21:00

Of all those, Sophie.

Aimee and Eloise are common here. Isla reminds me of some girl from Neighbours (or was it Home and Away) in the 90s!

pointydog · 16/11/2008 21:01

Eloise
Isla

Sophie

Aimee

Ashantai · 17/11/2008 00:09

I prefer the french spelling of Aimee too and i'm not even french !!! How very dare me!!

Its also my fav of the 4

thumbwitch · 17/11/2008 00:12

Sophie - ugh.
Eloise I like
Isla - not if your surname is White or Mann
Aimee - well, I never like the alternative spellings of names, having lived with one my whole life and constantly having to either spell it out for people or having it spelt wrong. So I agree to go with the "usual" spelling (Amy).

Ashantai · 17/11/2008 00:24

OP if you like the spelling of Aimee, then go for it. I remember my very first post on mn saying how i gave my daughter the middle name of Aimee, and some bird on here jumped up and down about me "not knowing how to pronounce her name and blardy blah".

Was a lovely welcome to mn and made me grow a thicker skin overnight!

Isla is a beautiful name, I think it's very pretty and not so unusual that noone will have heard of it but not so common that they'll be 10 Isla's in her class at school. Perfect!

Sophie is a bit prissy and too girly, sounds sickeningly girlie imo.

Eloise is a bit posh and snobby sounding.

Aimee is also nice, was going to be our name for ds if he had been a girl.

I'd go with Isla next time though!

Louise2004 · 17/11/2008 08:28

Even though I don't like girly names, I do like Sophie out of your list (or Sophia, which is even more girly!).

meandmyjoe · 17/11/2008 08:33

Strangely i think Sophia sounds less girly as it doesn't end in the 'ee' sound which is just so frilly and yucky! I quite like Sophia.

BlueChampagne · 17/11/2008 13:04

Eloise

VerifiedLU4097 · 17/11/2008 14:22

Isla is best.

mickeylou · 17/11/2008 14:39

I like Isla and Amy (not Aimee) but never been keen on sophie. its very popular and a bit chavy around here. Eloise ok but prefer Eliza.

ketal · 17/11/2008 19:40

I have to laugh that Eloise is described as both chavvy and posh/snobby in the same thread! Despite that it is still my fave - but I am biased having one myself! But my reason for preferring this name is that it is different to the current trend in names which is to have something 'X-ee' or 'X-a' sounding

Take the top 30 names for 2007 - they include: Rub-ee, Emil -ee, Soph -ee, Chlo -ee, Lil -ee, Luc -ee, Ell -ee, Eve -ee, Kat -ee, Mill-ee, Dais -ee, Popp -ee, Moll -ee, Holl -ee. 14 names out of the top 30 are X-ee sounding! Then a further 9 names are something -a such as Mi -a, Frey -a, Hann -a and so on... so between the two endings, they account for 23 out of the top 30 names on the 2007 list!) I just think they will date terribly and will end up sounding very 'noughties' just like karen and sharon sound so seventies to us!

But if that doesn't bother you, I think Sophie is a pretty name

BabyBaby123 · 17/11/2008 19:42

not overly keen but Isla probably best and then Eloise. Aimee (Amy) and Sophie far to common now - very over used imo
