...or possibly the second to have a little Edith. I met a baby Edith today - isn't it lovely?

morningpaper · 13/11/2008 20:00

lovely

FeelingLucky · 13/11/2008 20:01

think it's so lovely, might just steal it (if ever I get pregnant and have another girl )

Thomcat · 13/11/2008 20:01

Edith is a great name.

Megglevache · 13/11/2008 20:03

Yes very nice. I like old biddy names. My two have names of people in their 90's.

Do you think Maureen and Keith will ever be funky again?

Last week I met a Margaret and Eric who were brother and sister their middle names were Boo-Boo and Danger LOL

blinks · 13/11/2008 20:05

My friend's son's middle name is 'Marvellous'... His dad's surname is African so it just works so well.

Megglevache · 13/11/2008 20:14

Blinks my ds goes to Ballet with a Delightful and a Precious, they are African too. Love it!

Hulababy · 13/11/2008 20:15

It is a lovely name.

LuLuBai · 13/11/2008 20:16

Edith seems very in vogue right now, but I have yet to meet a baby Ethel.

artichokes · 13/11/2008 20:17

You won't be the first or second or even the hundred and first. Its a very "now" name. I know two baby Ediths and two Edies (full name is Edith). I like Edith but not Edie as Edie reminds me of the slutty one from Desperate Housewives.

RachieB · 13/11/2008 20:52

I used to nanny for a little Edith (Edie)
she was born last summer

blinks · 14/11/2008 00:07

Megglevache- bravo for taking your DS to ballet... i was majorly into ballet and our school always lacked boys.

Back to the girlies- how long until Beryl and Mabel have also been 'rediscovered'???

Agnes?
Nancy?

ravenAK · 14/11/2008 00:10

love Edith.

Couldn't have it for either dd because dh is Edward & ds Edmund - enough E initials for one family!

Clary · 14/11/2008 00:34

Edith is a lovely lovely name

MN-ers have posted before that it's very modish but I have to say I have come across (as in seen in the newspaper) two; there is one in DS1's school but that's the only real-life one I know.

Clary · 14/11/2008 00:34

blinks I love Mabel and Agnes too.

blinks · 14/11/2008 00:50

There are loads of women in their sixties called Agnes in my neck of the woods except most of them do that Senga thing as they hate it so much...

CocoaCloset · 14/11/2008 00:51

I used to go on the babycentre board and all these names have been argued to death for the last few years. Including Beryl and Mabel (V popular)

Tortington · 14/11/2008 00:53

fkin love agnes.

i might like mable but she was paternal gran with one leg and mean as shit

ScummyMummy · 14/11/2008 01:39

I thought you'd written an acrostic peom there, calif but then realised that I don't have a great aunt called Idngtgar.

MrsJohnCusack · 14/11/2008 06:58

lol at Califrau
I know an Edith and an Elsie, both about 4

lol at Megglevache. i have a relative here with the middle name Danger. first name is Zane though.

re Ethel, there was a girl in the year above me, daughter of our Latin teacher, called Etheldrede, Ethel for short. luckily for her, she was v.tall, pretty and lively so could carry it off, but I think she did change to her middle name (Rosalind) when she was about 15 and who can blame her\

and I skim read Scummy's post and though 'ooooh Idngtgar, must be Scandinavian

yellowflowers · 14/11/2008 09:35

I know of 3 baby Mabels

LaDiDaDi · 14/11/2008 09:54

I like Edith and Mabel. Not keen on Agnes and hate Ethel.

largeginandtonic · 14/11/2008 10:01

I love them all! I have some very old fashioned names on the list for this next baby girl.

I know an Elsa, she is soooo sweet. I thought Esme was cute too but have recently met two and erm... have changed my mind

I had rabbits called Violet and Mabel.

Agnes is a lovely name, Aggie from Nanny McPhee.
