Clementine.

I'm not pg, but DH and I were talking today...I think its pretty, DH says "pretty, but a bit mad". Would it be a but of a burden for a child?

Definitely not a burden but a bit silly. (With the usual IMO, apologies etc caveats.)

Nancy66 · 12/11/2008 19:29

why mad? it's a lovely, classic name - Winston Churchill's wife was called Clementine.
I prefer it to be prounounced Clementyne rather than Clementeen.

lulumama · 12/11/2008 19:29

pretty name, would be shortened no doubt to clemmy?

i think you have to be a bit wafty and boho though..

cthea · 12/11/2008 19:33

Do you think it's a classic name? I knew about Churchill's wife but I haven't read it in novels or seen it elsewhere that I remember.

thisisyesterday · 12/11/2008 19:36

it's lovely. Clemmy as a shortening is lovely too

girlandboy · 12/11/2008 19:37

Oh my darling.
Oh my darling.
Oh my darling Clementine..............

La la la....

girlandboy · 12/11/2008 19:38

Actually, I quite like the name. It's growing on me.

Nancy66 · 12/11/2008 19:40

It's a 200 year old name - quite upmarket but still quite rarely used. I'd group it in with names like Prudence, Patience, Aurora and that sort of ilk - middle class Victorian.

Fllightthebluetouchpaper · 12/11/2008 19:42

It's very veyr nice and was on our girl and boy lists.

However it got vetoed by myself when I started saying them all out loud. I found it very difficult to say Clem and felt like it was uncomfortable to say, for me. Also I kept thinking 'Phlegm'

Onlyaphase · 12/11/2008 19:42

Wasn't Kate Winslet's character in Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind called Clementine?

I like it, also like Clemency for a name

Fllightthebluetouchpaper · 12/11/2008 19:43

Not a burden at all, have seen far odder

Go for it!

hippipotami · 12/11/2008 19:43

I like it, but would worry about Clemmy. How long would Clemmy be at school before she gets called Clammy?

But Clementine is beautiful. If mad in a nice hippi wafty romantic way

colacubes · 12/11/2008 19:48

I like it, and very unusual, although now its out every dd born in the next mont could be a clementine.

kitsmummy · 12/11/2008 19:54

My 8 week old daughter is Orla Clementine, so of course i think it's beautiful

Cadelaide · 12/11/2008 19:56

It's lovely, very lovely, and not mad at all.

DS's middle name is Clement and I so wish we'd been braver and chosen it as his first.

AussieLou · 12/11/2008 20:12

Its on my wish list of names.
Have to find names that go with Margaret and Camilla so though I would stick with the old fashioned variety.

frazzledoldbag34 · 12/11/2008 20:37

I know of a Clementina.
Otherwise known as Orangina.

seeker · 12/11/2008 20:57

Clemency is a lovely name. Oh, please go for Clemency!

Boyswillbeboys · 12/11/2008 21:18

Clementine is gorgeous, I know a little girl with that name but she is usually called Clemmie

Astrophe · 12/11/2008 22:06

cool, I shall start working on DH then

thumbwitch · 12/11/2008 22:10

I know a Clem, she is in her 30s, she seems to cope ok with the name (Clementine that is)

thumbwitch · 14/11/2008 00:56

I have just looked up Cleo Laine on Wikipedia cos I wanted to know what Cleo was short for and her long name is Clementine!

I think Cleo is a lovely diminuitive.

Tortington · 14/11/2008 00:59

its mad for a boy. like....strk raving bonkers

thumbwitch · 14/11/2008 01:01

custy, there was a boy Clem in Kizzy - he was the one who stood up for her and was her friend. Also a cowboy name - was it Bonanza or high chapparal? something like that.

Tortington · 14/11/2008 01:22

i dont care if clementine had a puppy who saved the world from impending doom by quickly eating a tidal wave of cheese which came from he moon.

its daft fer a boy
