Was watching a program today and their little boy was called Quillan.

I have never herd of this name before, not sure if I like it or not.

Anyone else ever head the name before?

A program? Cbeebies birthday slot you mean?!

I also was enjoying some quality TV time, no never heard it before, quite like it though.

It's a place in France.

Never heard of it used as a name but yes I do like it.

browntrout · 29/10/2008 16:48

I'm pretty sure it's an Irish name. Never heard of anyone being called it but I think I have heard it before.

MrsMattie · 29/10/2008 16:53

Cillian is Irish. never heard of Quillan, though.

Sycupatree · 29/10/2008 17:07

Yes, I think it's probably Cillian, pronounced Kill-ee-an.

Like the actor, Cillian Murphy.

It's nice.

Nice, unusual without being wacky

Not sure it's Irish. Is it? There's a surname "Quinn". One of the 20 or 30 most popular sur names I'd say. Not quite up there with Ryan, but there'd be pages of them in the telbook.

Cillian is a first name. I like that. Use that. Much more normal and fairly OTM but not excessively.

Quillan sounds American to my ear. It has that diddlee-Eyed-lee-Eydlee Irish flavour, what Americans perceive to be Irish feel about it.

Okeedokee.

Janey mackers I'm caustic tonight and the children aren't even in bed yet.

Poor Ian. What's he done to deserve death?

annasmami · 29/10/2008 18:41

I like it, but like Quentin even more.

trickortreattrickortreat · 30/10/2008 10:55

Never heard of it, but sounds quite nice actually.

cottagemummy · 30/10/2008 21:49

my parners name is Quilligan...which is irish..so Quillan Quilligan could be the ultimate in Irishness...

Lonnie · 30/10/2008 22:09

McQuillanis an irish sur name so prob Irish

galwaygirl · 07/11/2008 13:47

If Quillian is Irish it's an Anglicised version as there is no Q in the Irish alphabet.

Cillian is a nice name, personally I think if people are going for Irish names they should use an Irish spelling but each to their own.
