Alice or Anna

Amelia is a bit erm... dunno not got a good vibe for me.

LittleBellaLugosi · 24/10/2008 21:56

Amelia - bit old lady victorian child, ghastly woman in vanity fair

Alice - bloody awful Alice in the Archers, could never have good connotations because of her

Anna - nice, classic, larvely.

LoopyLena · 24/10/2008 22:05

I really like Amelia, another variation that is very popular at the moment is Amalie (pronounced Am-a-lee).

Name association is a pig...you'll always think of something or someone to associate with...Alice in Wonderland, Alice on The Vicor Of Dibley..Anna Ryder Richardson... (not that there's anything wrong with those people!)

Just asked my 16 year old Step dd and she said Amelia too!

notnowbernard · 24/10/2008 22:06

I really like Anna, but there are LOADS of them round my way!

Alice is sweet

Don't like Amelia at all

hf128219 · 24/10/2008 22:07

Alice all the way! That is my DD's middle name

Neenztwinz · 24/10/2008 22:07

Alice Alice Alice - great name

Plonker · 24/10/2008 22:10

Anna. Lovely name.

Not keen on Alice and really don't like Amelia ...

AbbeyA · 24/10/2008 22:13

I like all 3-difficult to put in order but probably:

  1. Anna
  2. Amelia
  3. Alice
ScareyBitchFeast · 24/10/2008 22:15

all of them - only reason i didnt chose amelia was because i didnt like shortened amy

LoopyLena · 24/10/2008 22:49

But would Ann or Ali or Al be nicer? All names get shortened at school, my DS2 gets called Char, sounds like a cuppa tea!!!!

Hulababy · 24/10/2008 22:50

Order I prefer; Anna, Amelia, Alice.

TBH I like all three in general.

MintChocAddict · 24/10/2008 22:51

Alice very nice. One of my faves.

BabyBaby123 · 24/10/2008 22:53

none of them!

How about Amelie??

frankbestfriend · 24/10/2008 22:56

All lovely names, but in order of preference, favourite first

Anna
Amelia
Alice

How about Anna Amelia?

MommyHasaHeadache · 24/10/2008 23:04

Anna gets my 1st vote, followed by Alice, then Amelia.

MadBadandWieldingAnAxe · 24/10/2008 23:06

Alice!

totalmisfit · 24/10/2008 23:12

Anna

Liffey · 25/10/2008 11:32

Amelia, just don't like that meeeeeel sound in the middle. I know it's very popular though so nobody else minds I think. I think of it as being a variation of Emily, and on that line of thinking I prefer Emily, or if you want to be different, Romilly, or Camellia. (like the flower)

Alice, very sweet but still strong, very classic. A really good name choice, but although I really like it, I'd use it in the middle. Just seems more like a middle name to me!

Anna. I really like this, it's very simple but not weak. It's not going to date like Ella or Emma will. Even though I really like Anna, I think some people might think it's not quite enough of a name... Maybe?

Annabel is a bit stronger imo. Can still be Anna if you choose, but Annabel Alice flows really well. I like Anna, I just feel I want to accessorise it!!

Dooes the name have to begin with A? I like Juliet Alice and it popped in to my head, or Juliet Amelia (I can take it in the middle).

carrotjuice · 26/10/2008 08:57

Thanks for all your help - looks like the general feeling is:
1 Anna
2 Alice
3 Amelia
We would really welcome any more comments.

That'd be how I'd rank them too.

I was just reading this thread and I noticed that nobdoy dislikes Anna.

LouMacca · 26/10/2008 11:13

For me its

  1. Alice
  2. Anna
  3. Amelia

All pretty names.

Sazisi · 26/10/2008 11:18

I love Alice
Really like Anna too
Amelia, not so much

Sazisi · 26/10/2008 11:20

An advantage of Anna is that it's used all over the World

KnobblyBoneForkHandles · 26/10/2008 11:20

Alice or Anna and out of the two I prefer Anna.

Amelia is very popular round here.

wheresthehamster · 26/10/2008 11:23

Dd1 and dd3 are two of those names. Great choices!
