Went to school with a Magnus. Lovely guy, very strong, muscular and good-looking but also very kind. Name's not my cuppa but I've always felt it suited him down to the ground. He was always Mag to us.

TrippingTheLightFanjTastic · 12/10/2008 20:35

Maggie comes to the tip of my tongue. Would think I shouldn't use it as usually a girls name, but that's what I think of.

Mags?

twinsetandpalls · 12/10/2008 20:36

I teach a Magnus and have never heard him called anythung but Magnus.

dinny · 12/10/2008 20:38

Mags - as in bloke from A-ha

umberella · 12/10/2008 20:40

mags.

i love this name

dinny · 12/10/2008 20:42

it's nice - always imagine a Mags with long hair (like bloke from A-ha I suppose!)

DeJaVous · 12/10/2008 20:43

None TBH. My first love was a Magnus, he never got called anything else...

LynetteScavo · 12/10/2008 20:43

Magnus - a great name that should never be shortend!

frazzledoldbag34 · 14/10/2008 12:38

I wouldn't shorten it. It's nice just as it is. Very strong and manly. IMHO.

Megglevache · 14/10/2008 12:38

Mags and Magoo (from parents)

hambo · 14/10/2008 12:40

I love this name - maybe he would be called 'Mags' by his pals...

(I have it on my boys names list)

changer22 · 14/10/2008 16:28

The Magnus I knew - also lovely and good looking - was called Mag by everyone. We also called him Maggie but he didn't really like it!

I love the name but it doesn't work with the rest of my brood.

FimboGotAxed · 14/10/2008 16:29

One of my old bosses was a Magnus. He was up himself, but name never shortened.

pluto · 21/10/2008 21:16

My brother is Magnus. He has a much more interesting name than me His school mates used to call him Maggie for a bit during the Thatcher years but generally he's Magnus to everyone now.

Mandelbrot · 21/10/2008 21:17

Max

Liffey · 21/10/2008 21:22

Gus.

BodenGroupie · 21/10/2008 21:23

DD knows two, both teenagers, both known as Maggie.

cthea · 21/10/2008 21:25

The one I knew was nn Moona. He was/is lovely.

Finona · 21/10/2008 22:47

This is a family name for me (Orcadian connections) and DD would have been Magnus if she'd been DS2! I have relatives variously known as Magnus, Magnie and Mansie to distinguish them all from each other.

nickeldime · 31/10/2008 15:07

Mack? Saw it here, it's a variant of Magnus: www.babynamespedia.com/meaning/Mack

MrsKayMartin · 17/09/2018 04:25

Maybe, but he has to have something for babies to call him, especially if he's gonna have siblings..

PennyGH · 17/09/2018 06:22

My friend has a Magnus. He gets called Maggie or Magpie by almost everyone. I imagine this evolving into Mags during the teenage years and beyond. Lovely name.

PassportBridgetPants · 17/09/2018 08:33

I'd use Gus.

Sugarpiehoneyeye · 17/09/2018 08:43

Gus.

Sunflower321 · 17/09/2018 10:30

Magnus doesn't need a short form! It's a great name and easy to say!
