What name do you secretly love but would never use for your child?

For me it's Silas - it reminds me of the adventure programmes I used to watch as a kid. I think one of my first crushes must have been on a character called Silas.

I did suggest it for DS1 (vetoed by DP), but thinking about it I wouldn't want to call my son Silas and I can't really explain why.

Does anybody else have a name that they wouldn't use, but really like nonetheless...?

why is there an aversion to same first name letter as last name letter? like CC?
i think its brilliant and i find that a lot of strong/successfull/exciting people have initials like that EE, TT, LL etc.
I wish i had a T name for a girl that i like to go with our last name

scorpio1 · 05/10/2008 21:14

Its just too similar to our surname, thats all.

I love T names - Te(a)gan, Tayla, Tahnee, Toby, Tobias, Tobin

wessexgirl · 05/10/2008 21:14

Scorpio, we had a little Alanis at dd1's party today. Nowt wrong with it at all .

alittleteapot · 05/10/2008 21:23

I love the name Atticus for a boy, Atti for short, but DH would never allow and I'd probably end up going for something less unusual anyway in case he went to a school that was anything like mine...

I know some Lovedays, though am Cornish.

MrsJohnCusack · 05/10/2008 22:35

I would LOVE an Iris but it's absurd with our surname
tbh, DD has a name which could easily be on this thread but we went ahead and used it anyway. DH is a great name vetoer, he is very fussy

know LOADS of people/children with names on this thread

InTheDollshouse · 05/10/2008 22:37

Boys: Aubrey, Arkady
Girls: Isis

Martha200 · 06/10/2008 00:19

Nemna - as a teenager I really thought in my fantasy world one day I would have a Mungo, child or dog.. and no it's not happened!

Josiah

Martha200 · 06/10/2008 00:21

That reminds me I heard someone call for a 'Farley' the other day and I thought rusks!

gigglewitch · 06/10/2008 00:24

Jemima

...was my favourite doll so i wanted to call my baby the same!

RuthChan · 06/10/2008 07:19

Jasper
Felix
Poppy

Why do I find myself checking a list of names people consider unusable to find something for my own bump???

singingtree · 06/10/2008 07:22

Emmanuel. Love that name

Also, Nathaniel

Cadelaide · 06/10/2008 09:49

Melody

HairyToadsandHobgoblins · 06/10/2008 10:38

Violet because our surname begins with D, probably irrelevant now but I wouldn't want those initials.

Also DS born in Wales was nearly Morgan. English friends said "but that's a girl's name". Very glad we didn't go with it now though thanks to Eastenders.

Doozie · 06/10/2008 10:42

Crispin, Casper, Jasper, Jemima and Rosamund.

I love them, but DH says a very loud NNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

Unfortunately all too high on the ponce-o-meter!

danceontherun · 06/10/2008 10:50

Nathaniel but I would hate it to be shortened to Nathan so it's out!

TheRedQueen · 06/10/2008 10:50

Miriam and Maude - but DH said no and no again!

Kat70 · 06/10/2008 11:45

My kidiwinks are Darcey Eden (girl), Bailey Jonas (boy) and Skye Blue (girl). i love quirky names!

bohemianbint · 06/10/2008 11:47
