For me it's Silas - it reminds me of the adventure programmes I used to watch as a kid. I think one of my first crushes must have been on a character called Silas.

I did suggest it for DS1 (vetoed by DP), but thinking about it I wouldn't want to call my son Silas and I can't really explain why.

Does anybody else have a name that they wouldn't use, but really like nonetheless...?

That is if DD2 had been a boy by the way!!!

Jennyisjustknackered · 09/10/2008 15:20

Layla. Layla Taylor is wrong though.

Ptolomy? How'd you pron. that then?

Tolomy, but I hate it since that iritating man was on Restoration or whatever it was called....

JulieTwo · 09/10/2008 15:31

Columbia was one of my favourites for DD.

But our surname is Rhodes and we live in London: didn't think she'd be thrilled being named after a market.

Klaw · 09/10/2008 15:32

I want to call a girl Juniper, not sure if I would tho. Would probably use Erica instead.

Have to be very careful with names as Dp's surname is a kind of buidling. So we can't have names that sound like stately buildings. Albert is most definitely out!

oysterpots · 09/10/2008 15:41

My DS is Arthur. It's weird - sometimes I think he really suits it and other times I wonder what we were thinking.

I wanted him to be Rex so maybe he got off lightly (sexy Rexy anyone?).

If he'd been a girl I wanted Violet (too like violent according to DH) or Pearl (pearl necklace of course )

mppaw · 09/10/2008 15:41

Mabel - but have yet to come across anyone who shares my enthusiasm !! Is it that bad ?

Chester and Noah - both vetoed by DP

Natasha104 · 09/10/2008 15:42

If I had a daughter I would love to call her Persephone. ("Pur-sef-own-ee"). Or Hermione ("Hurm-i-own-ee"). Doubt my partner would agree to either!

toomuchempathy · 09/10/2008 15:45

Petronella , i knew one once- she was really pretty !!

shootfromthehip · 09/10/2008 15:48

Cornelius- love it. (also rather fancied a boy called Cornelius as a younger person )

Bob is also quite fabulous but deemed deeply boring by DH (sorry to all Bobs out there)

Also love Scarlet or Carmen for a girl.

I have a Jonah which gets a very mixed reception. He'll either love it or hate it

southlundon · 09/10/2008 16:01

When I was younger I always thought that

-Twenty or
-October

would make good names!!

shootfromthehip · 09/10/2008 16:10

I also heart Tobias and Hector- both names we considered for DS but when he was born ginger and scrawnie- well I just couldn't do it to him.

My first born son was always going to be called Kristian Aaron (Aaron after Elvis of course! {smile}. Had DD first Alena Kate, then son then another DD Ava Olivia.

Also love: Rosanne, Mabel, Esther, Annelise, Beatrice and Ketty for girls. If had had another DS he would be named after DG Jens Anton!

threewisemonkeys · 09/10/2008 16:52

nearly called DD Peppa before I'd heard of Peppa pig. Now when I hear her singing "Peppa Pig...SNORT!" I thank my lucky stars her name is slightly more common!

Wanted Tiger Lily for DD & Elvis for DS2 too, but DH not keen. Again, probably a lucky escape!

littledee · 09/10/2008 16:54

I really wanted Saoirse for DD1 - I love Irish names and being Irish etc etc...but DH disapproved as it means freedom in Irish and he felt it was rather "republican" and has IRA connortations!! We ended up with Caoimhe (Quee-va)

We nearly had Harry or Matilda till my BF made faces at them..I know know if we're lucky enough to have no 2 not to tell anyone names!

loisandluce · 09/10/2008 18:25

Klaw - I usually find quirky names like this to be a bit, well, iffy. But Juniper is great! I love it. Unusual, but a great ring to it. Hmm quickly rethinks the idea of not having any more babies in light of new, unusual, quirky but great name Does that make me shallow?
Just so long as the surname isn't Berry.

Kiwigirl26 · 09/10/2008 18:32

Hmmm...

Bathsheba, Cashmere, Patience, Thomasin, Moky for girls,

Indio, Diggory, Tennessee, Beau for boys!!!
What do you think, people?

francagoestohollywood · 09/10/2008 18:41

I love lots of English names both for girls and boys, which we didn't use, as, not being English neither me and my partner, it sounded a bit pretentious (in our opinion).
I also love Mila and Lola for a girl and Milo for a boy.

sussexoldspot · 09/10/2008 19:33

I agree with OP on Silas. Also love Cyrus, but DP vetoed on account of Cyrus The Virus in ConAir

ExtraFancy · 09/10/2008 19:33

Orlando
Persephone

cq · 09/10/2008 19:40

I love Rosie. But our surname is Harris and you couldn't have Rosie 'Arris. Makes me think of baboons.

Bloodandchatkins · 09/10/2008 19:44

I always loved Skye for a girl, but whenever I mentioned it everyone would laugh and say it was too hippyish ? I liked it because the lead singer of that band Morcheeba was called it, and her voice was so beautiful.

Still would like to have a little Skye one day !
Jesse for a boy, but chicked out in the end with ds, was worried he'd be teased for some reason, but still really like it.

CarolMed · 09/10/2008 19:52

I wanted Xanthe for a girl, but not allowed !

Gedgeybird · 09/10/2008 19:54

Rubyslippers, I did actually call my daughter Ramona 4 years ago, and there aren't many of them around in the playgrounds of Devon, that's for sure!
