What name do you secretly love but would never use for your child?

For me it's Silas - it reminds me of the adventure programmes I used to watch as a kid. I think one of my first crushes must have been on a character called Silas.

I did suggest it for DS1 (vetoed by DP), but thinking about it I wouldn't want to call my son Silas and I can't really explain why.

Does anybody else have a name that they wouldn't use, but really like nonetheless...?

I love all these names - Silas is a classic - Felix, clementine, cornelius, Cosmo, Gabriel:
just so cool!

I love Oleander.

Haroun - love it much more than more Anglo Aaron, but white British so would constantly be explaining.

Aurora (Rory) for a girl. Otto or Ezra (Ez) for a boy. Maybe if I have another one ... ;)

Amethyst86 · 08/10/2008 16:23

Fleur or Ferne (both these names vetoed by dh) or precious stone type names, Ruby, Topaz etc - did not even dare to suggest this.

Tobias for a boy - which I absolutely love but DH was bullied by a boy at school by that name so wont have it and Asa.

e14mum · 08/10/2008 17:30

Frances or Francis. Love love love it, but it's too masculine for a girl and too feminine for a boy in my opinion.

Claire236 · 08/10/2008 18:30

Anastasia - have loved it for years

merryandmad · 08/10/2008 18:40

Claire -Anastasia was top of dp's list- I just couldn't bring my self to do it.
My si wanted to name her dc Romeo, just glad it was a girl

loisandluce · 08/10/2008 18:42

Bracken - for a boy. When I was pregnant I was watching TV one evening when someone was captioned with the name 'Bracken'. Me and DH fell about laughing until, days later, I realised that I was still thinking about the name and that it would go perfectly with our surname. Needless to say, I didn't tell anyone... they'd have only blamed pregnancy hormones!

Chastity for a girl (not for the meaning, just for the sound of it)

Fabrizio for a boy (wish I had married an Italian!)

I was so going to call my DD 'Ruby', with middle name 'Tuesday'. I still love the idea.

DD2 was nearly Aneurin, but I kept forgetting how to spell it. Would have been Nye for short.

Love Maisie, DH said no, and Reuben. Lydia, Elisha, Asher, Noah.

I always wanted to be called Candy when I was a child!
