Freida? Good or bad?

My Mum suggested this and at first I thought yeuch -but it's a grower. I am looking for Scandinavian names. Don't know if it's going to be a girl or boy.

It's spelled "Frieda" or the anglicised version is "Freda." It means "peace". I think it's more German than Scandi. It's one of my family names.

it's fab, had it on my list for ds2. but, he was a boy. obviously. so didn't use it.

needs to be something soft
and remember most people will think "Freda" which isn't as evocative

I don't like or dislike Frieda/Freda, but I do really like Greta, who I can imagine would be Freida' sister.

Thanks for the spelling correction. We have a soft two syllable Irish surname that links with Molly and Bugsy (wink) and I think that would be OK with Frieda. I found a Ted Hughes poem the other day which was about him out walking with (his little girl?) Frieda. I feel like it's a sign!! Our DS was going to be Freya but I've gone off that - there's a lot of them around!

I think it would sound really nice with your surname! I think it can also be spelled Frida (poss Swedish spelling?). It has been overused in my family, which is one of the reasons I didn't use it.

Frida was on my girl's list (had a boy, hence username) after one of my favourite artists Frida Kahlo.

I think it sounds butch - sorry!

I like Freida though

My dd's middle name is Frieda. It's after my grandmother, whose father was German. I think it is a great name, a little unusual, but not outlandish. However my mother was very upset that I chose it (much to my surprise, and too late in any case). She said my grandmother didn't like it, but I think that may have been because having a German name was difficult at that time. She was usually known as "Free" - my Grandfather was Tony, so they were Tony and Free. I don't think she liked being called Free to be honest, as she decided on giving her children names that could not be shortened (my Grandfather gave them nicknames instead ). Sounds good with Malone too. Go for it.

yuk...Frieda is a granny name, and not a pretty one, sorry....am german and in germany the Frieda's I have met were all not so kindly old ladys, lol....which doesn't help!

Very cool name. Would work if she grew up to be a fashion model or an astrophysicist.

I really like it. It's stronger and less obviously fashionable than Freya. It's not so pretty perhaps but it's an attractive sound. Not a doormat wallflower name. A Frieda would be a natural leader I think.

lol Liffey it's amazing what can be read into a name! I think Frieda is prettier than Freya (although for some reason I am now thinking what a nice name for a cow - I have no idea why, maybe I'm thinking about Friesians )

Funny coincidence as I came up with Fresia as an alternative flower name to rose or lily when I was prg. My Mum who is a farmer's dd told me that's the cow durr you mean Freesia, that's the flower. But I didn't like the look of that. So I went off it.

But Frieda is lovely, and pretty.
