Xanthe or Zanthe

My daughter now 4 days old, no name yet, was thinking Eve, now thinking Xanthe or Zanthe. Any thoughts on these?? Prefer the look of Xanthe but will it make people struggle to know how to pronounce it??

Where i live i'm sure lots of people will be like what?? how do you say that?? (our nearest supermarket is nearly an hour away, when i gave birth the neighbour knew before i did(almost), its very 'insular' shall we say... i'm not native!!)

If it's your favourite name, don't worry about what the neighbours will think - just go for it!

I think its a perfectly acceptable name. It is uncommon, but you didnt just invent it! Your neighbours might even like it!

Megglevache my daughter is at the moment very dark skinned due to her lovely (physiological) jaundice and has the best head of hair my neighbours have ever seen, also very dark, she looks like she has a little wig on, even has long side burns and i'm sure we could get a bobble in the back. But my older daughter who was v similar as a newborn has gotten fairer as she gets older.
I know the name means blond or yellow but do you think that is more significant than liking the name? Iris (dd1) means 'messenger of the rainbow'... i doubt she will be!!

Pronouncing the 'X' as 'Z' is a basic I would have thought.
But then my sons name is not far off that and I love him having the X as an initial.

My DD1 is Xantia. Shortened to Tia sometimes. I do often have to repeat it a few times for people to understand what her name is! X as an initial is great.

I'm personally loving it! Now thinking of middle name to go with it. Dp not so sure but all the positive comments helping! I think him having seen me birthing the 9lb9oz lady (naturally may give me some powers of persuasion... she hopes...

no xander that i know is an only child, infact i know of 2, both only children.

We have just named DD2 Xanthe Willow!

It took us a week to decide on it for sure - we too were concerned about an X name being a bit much and her being cursed to spell it forever , but there are so many spellings of normal names nowadays so i don't think it's such a big deal now.

Also, I figured that most people can cope with xylophone starting with x so it can't be that hard to grasp!

Just be prepared for lots of people to say " oh , that's an unusual name !"

We love it - she suits it - that's what counts .
