Archie

Do you think this goes with Oliver? (DS1 name).
I really liked this name a few years ago before I had DS1 but decided on Oliver because I thought that Archie had become too common verging on the chav side. However, I do like it!

Anyway, what are your thoughts? The other name I liked was Sebastian but again not sure.
I am finding boys names really hard!

I love it, was clessed with two girl though so guess what our hamster is called?

I really loved Archie, but wanted something less obviously trendy so I went for Richie. I've no regrets there. I think Richard goes better with Oliver.

Archie is very much of the moment, and will date terribly. But then so do many names.

i liked archie a few yrs back but it really is very popular now and has personnaly put me off it.

I like Sebastian, it would be my name if i have ever had a boy.

Alexander?

Like it - don't think its that popular. Alfie is used alot.

My DS is called Archie and I love it even more now than I did when he was born. There are annoyingly quite a few around now but I still think it's a great name. Hope it won't date ... surely not as much as Alfie, and there are hundreds of them out there?!

Archie is a nice name but I think you would find Sebastian to be less frequently used and so I would go for that - it's a lovely name as well.

I can't like it - I really can't. It reminds me of the name Archibald which is just wrong

I like Oliver very much though.

Jam - it must be the most popular boys name for new babies where I live at the moment. I pity the teachers in 4-5 years time!

I like Sebastian better, and love Seb as a shortening (I prefer full names, and if you don't like Archibald I don't think you should use Archie). Richard is lovely, and quite unusual now (dd was going to be Richard Ezra). Alfred is fab (Alfie less so, see above).

I know so many Archies born in the last year. Someone mentioned that it is in Eastenders now.. this will give it the same boost as it did Alfie no doubt!

That said, it is a good name. I wouldn't say it was posh though..

I know loads of Archies. But as with all my fav names, they always become popular. If you like it that much you should go with it or you may regret it when you hear other parents using it and think 'that was MY name'. My sons name is unusual but my daughter has a really popular name and I'm fine with that. I got over my brief spell of cringing every time i heard someone use it for their child because I like it and that's what matters. Archie goes really well with Oliver btw as does Edward, Harry, Oscar(could get confusing with 2 O's), Barnaby, George and how about this Monty - very cute! (forget about that gardener and the snake!)

I love the name, it was on our list too for a boy (we had girls) 5 years ago but now I know sooo many Archies. (like 8 personally and a few more if counting friends of friends).

Our daughters don't have unusual names but I wanted them to at school be know by first name only, not first name and initial of surname. (now I regret it slightly as not so easy to play down when one of he little b**gers gets into trouble at school (which is too often))

I don't like Archibald - I also agree its just wrong! DP has said that if we do go for Archie then he would like Archibald on the BC. this puts me off!

I keep coming back to Sebastian, the only thing about the name that puts me off is people calling him Seb, which I'm not too keen on.

nuthacuppatea - I love Oscar...DP doesn't says its a dogs name?!?!? Grrrr!

Now I really don't like Archiebald but Archie is a name in its own right now.

Alexander is a name close to my heart, it was my Grandfathers name. Problem is it always gets shortened, but then I suppose most names do.

DS1 is an Archie (& Archie on his birth cert) & I still love it. He couldn't be called anything else. I think, though, that 2 boys both ending with 'ie' is a bit twee. My friend has just had a Jonah which I think is great. I'm in same place as you - what goes with Archie?! I really like Monty but Archie & Monty sounds like something out of Dad's Army! I also like Clement but everyone else in the world (apart from DH) hates it.

I love the name Archie, and don't think these kind of names will date. There are lots of older men called Archie, Alfie, Reggie etc and they sound fine for an older man as well as cute for a little boy.

My two little cousins (who are brothers) are Archie and Oliver. Dunno about UK but Archie is becoming so popular in Australia that I suspect it will date; it will mark the man as a turn-of-the-millennium baby, just as Jack is sooo '90s. If you do go for Archie I implore you to give him the full Archibald on his birth cert; that way he'll have both a grand formal name and a cute nickname, instead of just the latter, and can use whichever when he likes.

Archie and Alfie are the two most common boys names around here, although I live both of them.

I don't like Archibald though.

My favourite are Thomas and Alexander.
