SIL nicked my baby name!

I am 20 weeks pregnant. SIL gave birth to a daughter yesterday and has announced the name as the one that was at the top of my list for a girl!

I am being absolutely unreasonable in minding and didn't put this in AIBU because we had never even discussed it so she is utterly without fault but I find myself strangely gutted. I don't even know what sex my baby is yet so I really am being ridiculous, but does anyone kind of know what I mean?

Do you think it's just a pregnant strop and I'll be able to behave like a rational, reasonable adult when I meet niece in law?!

TNGISAM - yes it does, and yes it does, actually! Thank you! My sister in law is very nice, so I'm pleased I've married someone whose family are like me/mine. And of course I would never want to make her feel like I was properly upset about it (which I'm probably not if I think about it carefully!).

This happened to me with my SIL.

I had always said I wanted Ben for a boy. My SIL had boy before me and named him Ben.

We opted for Daniel (my husbands choice) which I now love. He looks like a Daniel and not a Ben iykwim so correct decision all round!

I would be gutted too. I remember telling DP cousin a name I liked whilst we were at a wedding. Anyway, she got pregnant and used the name. I was gutted and even though we NEVER see each other, its a name I would never use now. You can't help how you feel!

Oh poor you. I'll be honest and say if my SIL had done that unknowingly I'd be really upset even though she couldn't possibly have known so I can empathise. (Pregnancy can make little things feel so much more out of proportion).
But at least she didn't 'steal' your name on purpose and you can definitely spend the next 3-4 months coming up with something nicer, more original and more 'you'. Maybe you're having a boy anyway? And if not, I'll bet you any money that by the time your baby arrives you'll be delighted with your new choice and your old favorite won't seem quite so nice as it once did. And anyway it will have 'become' your neice's name by then.
But I must admit, I would love to know what the name was???
Please start a new thread and we can help you find something even nicer?

OH God, I have just been gripped by a horrible panic that one of my pregnant friends will 'steal' my favorite babies name! I've got 7 months still to go and there are about 5 babies due before mine.
Aaarggghh. Panic.

Sorry, that's not helping is it.

I would feel miffed too even though I would know that I really had no right to. You haven't said you know the sex so maybe you will have a boy and then it wouldn't have been an issue anyway? (Unless something neutral like Ashley, I guess)
