Hi, I know it's a bit weird, but Captain Corelli's Mandolin is my favourite book and the little girl in that is called Lemoni...I love it, but don't want my child to be teased and ostracised! Would appreciate any thoughts!

I think its quite cute! Can imagine a little tot toddling around! Was then trying to imagine an adult with the name too - and I can! I say go for it! What were you thinking of as a middle name?
Talking of(kinda) greek inspired names i went to school with a Zante!

dilbertina · 10/09/2008 16:07

I know of a Lemoni with middle name "sunshine". Each to their own.

Actually, whilst the sunshine bit may be a bit far for me I think Lemoni is fine.

Jennyusedtobepink · 10/09/2008 16:10

It's quite cute, but reminds me of Lemon-y, like washing up liquid.

platypussy · 10/09/2008 16:14

Stupid name.

Jennyusedtobepink · 10/09/2008 16:15

Don't hold back, platypussy.

AmIWhatAndWhy · 10/09/2008 16:17

One of my best friends is called Leonie, similar, but less weird.

It reminds me of 'Limone' (running Guardian joke...)

MrsMattie · 10/09/2008 16:17

A bit silly.

preggersplayspop · 10/09/2008 16:21

I think of Limone, which Jon Ronson told his sons was the worst swear word in the world.

Its quite cute, but it would just be Lemon-y for most people and a bit of a strange fruit based name.

preggersplayspop · 10/09/2008 16:22

Its not just me then AmIWhatAndWhy!!

belgo · 10/09/2008 16:22

It's pretty, but agree with Mrs Mattie, it's a bit silly.

AnybodyHomeMcFly · 10/09/2008 16:24

Sounds like an ice lolly, sorry

PinkyDinkyDooToo · 11/09/2008 20:32

I think it has a lovely sound to it, but there are the obvious teasing opportunities.

themildmanneredstalker · 11/09/2008 20:36

it's silly.

I think the potential problem is that English-speaking folk will probably pronounce it Lemonny, ie 'a bit like a lemon', which does sound like a description for air freshener.

I'm guessing the name is Greek and, if you have Greek roots, then why not go with it if it's your favourite name, but you will spend years explaining the name to people and correcting their pronunciation.

PeppermintPatty · 11/09/2008 22:21

I like it. Not sure if I would use it though.

insywinsyspider · 11/09/2008 22:21

its a lovely name - if you like it go for it x

pointydog · 11/09/2008 22:30

It's an excellent name all round.

Quattrocento · 11/09/2008 22:32

Will only work if your surname is Snicket.

No actually I like it. It's a bit silly but I do like it. Good luck.

SoupDragon · 11/09/2008 22:48

No, no and no again. she will be teased appallingly. As DH would say "why don't you start bullying her now and be done with it".

SoupDragon · 11/09/2008 22:48

I was teased about my name at school and it's miserable.

pointydog · 11/09/2008 22:50

aare you called lemoni, soup?

Bowddee · 11/09/2008 22:54

Sorry for this but...

Thinking about the future, the name sounds better suited to a porn star than a managing director.

IMO.

SoupDragon · 11/09/2008 22:56

No, I'm called Soup, obviously.

pointydog · 11/09/2008 22:58

Soup is an excellent name all round.
