My friend thinks so. I was too embarrassed and cross to tell her this is on my list if I have a dd .

pick a name because you like it.have some conviction, not your mate said blah blah - now you are unsure...

Soprana · 07/09/2008 01:02

very, very pretty name. but that's just my view. yours is the most important one.

Brightfield · 07/09/2008 01:05

I'm so bored of these 'is it chav?' threads. It's all down to personal opinion how classy/unclassy a name is - mostly due to personal associations.
Most names are classless today anyway. As long as a name isn't made up or misspelled it's fine.

WinkyWinkola · 07/09/2008 01:09

Alicia is prettier, I think.

tbh dont discuss your chosen name.pick it.love it.live with it,can't please everyone.end of

Soprana · 07/09/2008 01:14

What's wrong with made up names? Mine was made up. OK so it was made up in the 19th century, but it's 100+ years old so no-one gives a toss now.. All names have to come from somewhere. As long as it's not likely to embarrass your LO/impossible to spell/outright offensive, who cares, as long as you like it? Go for it sleepy!

raindropsonroses · 07/09/2008 01:24

I agree all names are made up at some point. Don't think is chavvy but like Alicia more.

ninedragons · 07/09/2008 06:34

It's not chavvy but I would mentally place an Alyssa a little lower down the social scale than an Alice.

3andnomore · 07/09/2008 11:35

I think it's lovvely and owuldn't consider it chavvy at all...

SheSellsSeashellsByTheSeashore · 07/09/2008 11:40

i wanted alyssa for dd2 but dh told me that it was a 'made up name'. dd1's name is also made up apparently.

i also liked anya which is a family name that is made up too. and according to dh you cannt give your children foriegn names unless you hail from that country. i think he forgot that my family does indeed hail from slovenia and that anya was my great aunts name. but spelled anja.

TheNaughtiestGirlIsaMonitor · 07/09/2008 20:39

It is. I'm going to be lfamed for this, but feck, I've had two large lgasses of wine and I really don't care. My male cousins in Australia all behave with this shabby M.O. have several children and a bogan, then dump first bogan and move But, the point I'm getting to finally is that more than one of the children, cousins, or half cousins or step cousins to eachother were called Alyssa, Alicia, Alyssia...arhghghghghg! so it's a common name in bogan circles, imo.

What the heck is wrong with Alice?!?

Anya is lovely and anybody can use that imo.

TheNaughtiestGirlIsaMonitor · 07/09/2008 20:41

I've just re-read my post. what utter nonsense. What ninedragons said really. Ignore my post.

GetOrfMoiLand · 07/09/2008 20:45

Lolol at Naughtiest Girl's stream of consciousness ramblings!!

Alyssa is a pretty name - not on the chavometer IMHO.

stripeymama · 07/09/2008 20:46

What is a 'bogan'?

jchandler · 07/09/2008 20:54

bogan is an australian chav basically. used in Melbourne mainly. Mullet haircuts and flanelette shirts.

I really love the name Alyssa. Very pretty !!! go for it

poppy34 · 07/09/2008 20:56

lol - naughtiest gil you have really made me laugh..had forgotten about bogans

frankbestfriend · 07/09/2008 21:06

Rofl NaughtiestGirl have another drink and post some more, that last post was a classic

ja9 · 07/09/2008 21:08

i only know one alyssa. not chavvy at all

AuntieMaggie · 07/09/2008 21:11

Alyssa has greek and hebrew origin. My name is also hebrew but often accused of being made up.

I think it's really pretty and not "chavvy".

Anyway, who cares what anyone else thinks - as long as you like it that's what matters.

"Chav" is overused in my opinion to insult things people don't like.

"I would mentally place an Alyssa a little lower down the social scale than an Alice" how wonderfully stuck up of you.

TheNaughtiestGirlIsaMonitor · 07/09/2008 21:43

Was it like Ulysses? Taht was a stream of consciousness too apparently!

No more booze tonight..

What about Leopold? Now there's an excellent name. I wish I'd called my son Leopold in fact.

AbbeyA · 07/09/2008 21:55

What is wrong with Alice or Alison?
Anya is fine. My pet hate is made up names.

Janni · 07/09/2008 21:55

I like Alicia.

AbbeyA · 07/09/2008 21:59

Alicia is very nice.

Heated · 07/09/2008 22:08

I know a Lissy shortened from Elizabeth.

Alyssa is ok. Alice/Alys is better.
