Know a Lyla.

Such a pretty name.

KelaH · 05/09/2008 16:41

It's Lyla - I knew a girl called Lila when I lived in America, lovely name.

Pinkchampagne · 05/09/2008 16:43

Lyla. I think it is a very pretty name.

wombleprincess · 05/09/2008 16:45

or can be spelt laila, which makes pronounciation a bit easier???? very pretty.

CrushWithEyeliner · 05/09/2008 16:46

Love that name - it's lyla

MrsFluffleHasAWuffle · 05/09/2008 16:50

I like the Lyla spelling of it. Very cool name though for either of the versions, especially now there's a Lila character in Dexter

ethanchristopher · 05/09/2008 17:19

Lyla.

Somebody please tell me i'm not a bad person for wanting to call my children Dexter, Lila and Nina to have my own little "Dexter" offspring

DanJARMouse · 05/09/2008 17:27

I know a Lila-Rose, she is fab!

bloomingfedup · 05/09/2008 17:44

I knew a Lila - pronunced Leyla - would spell it differently if you intend to prounonce it like this - people said it as it was spelled.

annasmami · 05/09/2008 19:54

In German its pronounced Leela (and means purple ). Lovely name, though.

Eilatan · 05/09/2008 20:00

Wasn't she Adam's first wife, who behaved even more disgracefully than Eve? I think she became a demon?

Jibberish I know!

3andnomore · 05/09/2008 20:57

depends where you live...if you are in an english speaking country it would be Lyla, if you were in germany it would be Leela (and would mean Purple)

to me it's not a name, sorry!

LadyG · 06/09/2008 14:47

Leela in Sanskrit means divine play or drama ie an enactment of one of the religious epics. Lila in Persian is a variant of Leila meaning night. Pronounced Lyla in Hebrew

Vian · 06/09/2008 15:18

I thought it was pronounced as lil-la but I like Lyla better.

nuthacuppatea · 14/09/2008 21:53

My niece is Lila (Pronounced lyla lye-la). We all love the name. Very pretty. Reminds me of a summers day with floating petals.... don't know why!

crabby · 15/09/2008 10:30

My 5 week old DD is called Lilah, prononced lie-la. The H at the end is quite a traditional spelling. Varient of Lily and Elizabeth in english, Juliet like character in Hindi, also darkness of night in arabic.

I love it but am v biased

Lilith was Adams first wife, and didn't behave disgracefully, she could be the first feminist

"After God created Adam, who was alone, He said, 'It is not good for man to be alone.' He then created a woman for Adam, from the earth, as He had created Adam himself, and called her Lilith. Adam and Lilith immediately began to fight. She said, 'I will not lie below,' and he said, 'I will not lie beneath you, but only on top. For you are fit only to be in the bottom position, while I am to be the superior one.' Lilith responded, 'We are equal to each other inasmuch as we were both created from the earth.' But they would not listen to one another. When Lilith saw this, she pronounced the Ineffable Name and flew away into the air."
