Some names

Dh and i were talking about some names the other night - this is my way of keeping the thought in the back of his mind that we will be going for number 5 soonish - and it works/
Would love some opinions on the girls names -
We have 4 children - Iris, Pearl, Amos and Elijah.

Our list

Winifred - top for me
Joan - top for dh
Mary
Jean
Margaret - Maggie
Dorothy - Dot
Hilda
Audrey

We would probably go for a more wacky mn - Sunshine, Bluebell, Violet etc

I am sure they will not be terribly popular but thought i would test the waters!

Boys names under consideration are Jethro, Jeremiah (Jem) and Atticus.

Of your choices, I like Jeremiah and Joan best and think they'd work well with your other names. Joan was my mum and my granny's name, so would have been a mn contender if DS had been a girl.

Quite a 1940s/50s selection of names. I would go for the 'more wacky 'lot than the ones listed. What influences your choices of names?

I love your DC's names and your boys' names (I'm married to a Jethro ) but less keen on the girls' names - they all seem a bit ... beige. Of the list, I prefer Margaret (except for the Thatcher thing!), Dorothy and Audrey

Why are the girls names so old fashioned? I'm all for reviving names but some of those are awful - my mum is named Winifred after her auntie Winnie who is 80 odd...when mum was growing up she was teased for having such an old fashioned name and that was the 50s/60s FGS. Even calling herself Wini didn't modern it up....and she got called Fred at school which she hated. I've never met another Winnie/Winifred except a chinese girl who chose it herself after Winnie the Pooh.
Joan and Hilda are toooo old lady. Maggie, Dot and Audrey are quite sweet but still a bit old fashioned for me - but if that's your thing then go for one of those.

Blubell/Violet/any unusual flower is ok as a MN but sunshine? No.

Jem and Jethro are ok. Atticus is Baaad.

Of the names you suggest, I think Winifred, Dorothy, Hilda, Jeremiah and Atticus are lovely and are the best fit with the names you already have. I like the idea of a wackier middle name but Sunshine isn't (in my view) a name at all. Bluebell and Violet, however, are totally fab.

not really keen on the names...but out of the girlsname, if I had to pick one, it would be Audrey.
I do really like Jeremiah for a boy though

Love Dorothy (was on our list).
Love Jeremiah and Atticus, but would poss avoid Atticus with an Amos already (same initial - postal probs would bother me).

I wouldn't go for any of those names personally, but then my baby naming days are done. We do intend calling our next pair of cats Amos and Mr Wilkes though

I think all of the girls names would go with your two dds, I'd choose the less usual ones as Iris and Pearl are probably not that common, and I thin it's nice to be at least a little unusual ( so probably not Margaret or Mary) I think that Jeremiah (cool name) would fit best with your boys, as another obviously old testament name.

Your middle names are quite wacky - it's an odd combination I think (except Violet which to me is another old fashioned name) but maybe that's why you like it, which is obviously cool.

We were going to have an Ezra if we'd had another boy instead of a dd, and we have chosen granny type names
(one old English, the other after two great grannies).

I met someone who had named her dd Sunshine, tis a lovely sound I think and no worse than being named after a flower imo.

Of your girl first names I like Audrey best.

Love all of the boys names but particularly Atticus.

Atticus is the boys name which would go best with Amos and Elijah.

I'm not so keen on any of the girls names, apart from Mary.

I like all of your boy's names but Atticus is the winner for me.

I don't like Winifred, Joan or Hilda (I actually think that they are quite clunky and ugly compared with Pearl and Iris). The others are all nice but I think Audrey goes best with your other girl's names although Maggie is probably my favourite.

I have a Jem. He's the only one I know and everyone says they love it (although I suppose they aren't going to tell me if they hate it..)

I like Winnie (if it was to be shortened) but to be honest i prefer the flowery names you mentioned.
Atticus just is odd,it reminds me of that dodgy programme 'cash in the attic'.

Margaret - Maggie - like a lot, really like Maggie/Meg

Jethro, Jeremiah (Jem) and Atticus - don;t like any of them at all

Margaret or Maggie is the only one that is quite nice.
I would be embarrassed if I had to go through life as Winifred, she would have to be quite a trendsetter to carry it off!
They are all early 20th century names that are not popular for very good reasons.

I love Atticus. That's a gorgeous one.
But sorry not keen on any of the girls names.
I'd suggest sticking with the Violet / Bluebell type theme - have you thought about Topaz or Emerald?

I love Margaret. It has great nns.

Joan I'm not wild about but Jeannie is lovely.

Elsa, Dulcie, Polly and Mabel would go well with your girls'.
