Daisy - Too twee?

We have pretty much decided on Lucy Alice but Daisy was another name on our list and yesterday w met a lovely girl called Daisy and it made us think again.

Is it too cute and little girlish?
A) I doubt my daughter will make Prime Minister anyway ( but who knows)
B) I'm not sure a name would stop someone becoming something if they had drive, intelligence, opportunity etc

mmm, what do you think?

yes too twee. Sorry. It suits lovely little girls and virtually no one else.

I love Daisy (obviously) - that was the name DH first knew me by, as we met on match.com. Read something the other day (might have been on mn) that seemed to me the perfect test if you're worried it might be too twee, etc. Imagine yourself calling out the name in a playground - if you think you'd feel embarrassed, it's not for you. You can always give her a middle name that she can use later if she wants. Daisy Alice would be nice, and then she could use Alice if she wants to be more 'serious'.

there are other not so girly names that still have a botanical theme:
Heather
Hazel

for example.

Daisy is a beautiful name - if you and dh like it, go for it!

There are plenty of 'serious' Daisy's in the world.

Agree Daisy Alice has a lovely sound to it. Perfect!

Lucy Alice nice too - but there are so many Lucy's. Lucy has been in the top 10 for years.

i love daisy.

i knew a lovely older lady called daisy. she was so sweet and elegant and lovely... (just in case the adds to your case lol!)

There are just so many Daisys about! I think it is really sweet for a girly girl but not for a grown woman which she will be in 18 years time!

Lucy and Alice are fabulous names...but Daisy...well...bit like Buttercup...it's a cowsname to me, sorry! (You wanted people to be honest, right [worried emoticon] )

yes I wanted honest replies don't worry. I think it's quite a 'girly' name so will appeal to some people more than others. I think Lucy is quite 'girly' too but more classic so has a wider appeal. I am not worried about the popularity of Lucy, I think it has been popular for a long time for a reason. I only know two anyway, one is 6, the other 37 so I can live with that.

I don't know many little girls called Lucy...maybe have met 3-4 ver the past 12 years..and also met a few adults called Lucy...but again, not masses...and I always thought it's a great name for girls and women

I have met even fewer Alice's...only one little girl with that name, and she is superadorable

TBH, I can't see anything wrong with girly names for a girl...if I had a gir, I probably would have choses a very girly nmae, too...

nope - i know two Daisies and they are feisty kids. Babies grow into whatever name you give them

Daisy is cute for a baby/toddler and sweet for a little silver haired granny, but too twee for anything in between!
Find something to suit all ages - Lucy and Alice are both beautiful and timeless.

I quite like it but I think it is a bit 'over' if you see what i mean.
It just seems like that name of choice for trendy mummys about ten years ago.
All those beautiful home magazine with the architect father andthe interior designer mother have a ten year old girl called Daisy.
( with sister Tilly or brother Finn)

Lucy and Alice are both much better - classic and timeless, elegant and pretty, girly and grown up. Our cat is called Daisy. stick with what you settled on. (and, I personally, don't think the idea of adopting a middle name as your main name in later life is a vrey realistic one. there's no way I could suddenly announce that I'm not called Gertrude I am in fact called Belinda...I just don;t think names work like that...)

no not twee - or no more twee than Lily or Emily or Jessica or Sophie or Isabella or all those other popular girls names around at the moment. It's just that there are very few older Daisys around so that's why people associate it with young girls and little old ladies.

In fact I don't know any girly Daisys - my one is a tomboy and really suits her name! no I'm not an interior designer and I'm quite glad it is "over" - hopefully she won't be one of 10 Daisys in her class when she starts school.

I like it, pretty and girl yes. And all children grew up to be whatever they want/can be, regardless of name IMO.

I know of an adult Disy, and she hasn't been held back by it.
