Bo. Please be gentle.

Bo is a girl's name that caused both me and dp to go 'brilliant!' when we heard it. we haven't told anyone in rl because it's bound to cause huge issues. and i suspect because i'm not entirely convinced.

is it pretentious?
will she be bullied?
will i ever get over saying 'it's spelt B.O.'

the trouble is, i just love it so much and i can picture a funny feisty little girl with this name (no pressure on daughter then..) i have some other, more traditional names lined up - one is my grandma's name, and is a surefire winner with everyone.

any thoughts?

I know a little girl called Boe. BO connection never occured to me with the simple addition of a letter. Wasn't sure about it at first, but I like it - nicely feisty, imo.

I'm in the 'nice nickname but not a name for a grown woman' camp.

Isabeau is a long-established name in France - see the wikipedia entry for Isabeau of bavaria. How about that?

If it's a girl go for Bo. The spelling Beau is definitely a boy's name. Isabeau is a very old girl's name which comes from Elizabeth but they changed it to Isabelle when they realised Beau was the masculine word for beautiful in French and Belle the feminine.

someone I know called their ds Bo. When she told me I didn't hear properly and said "sorry, what was his name?" and I could tell by the look on her face that she was getting that a LOT.

Personally, I hate it, but your kid, your choice. Please remember though that they have to live with it.

I don't think there is anything wrong with Bo. My dh really wanted my dd to be called Bo, but I wasn't too sure of it as a first name so she is Isla Bo. I do get a lot of what is her middle name? but I don't care I think its quirky and isn't as outrageous as some names lol!
If you really love it , go for it.. but if you have any doubts then you can't really love it as much as you think x

Bo is a lovely name. I'm due in March and have also chosen Bo as my daughter's name. If the Body Odour thing bothers you that much, why not spell it Bou? But for me, it's Bo all the way!

I was aware of the Ulrika connection, but I don't know her personally, so doesn't matter to me.

I work with a Bo, but she is Slovakian and it is shortened from Bozenka.

It's a nice name though!
