Too now?

I like the names Elijah and Gideon. They both go with out surname and would work well with the chosen middle name of John (family thing).
Now I'm pretty sure I can talk DH into Elijah (Eli) but I'm a bit worried its very now. Both my other boys have biblical names so it would fit but I don't want people to think in 10 years time 'oh Elijah, he must be about 10' as they wouldn't do that with the other twos name. Is it too popular at the moment?

Sorry meant to say hypothetically in the nearfuture. Can you tell I'm planning and dreaming? I need to convince him of the baby first then can start on the name

I don't know any baby Elijahs or Gideons so I don't see them as very "now". I loved Elias as a boys name but we are having a girl .

I've got an Elijah, he's 14mo. I've only heard of one other, who is about 3 and in a different country. Didn't seem to be too popular round where we lived, everyone kept asking where it came from

I think Elijah (and its shortened form Eli) is very popular now and in fact, it was a name we considered for DS. However, whenever we brought it up, people also said it was very 'Jewish' (nothing wrong with that but I guess we had no Jewish connections whatsoever and people said that's what they think of when they see the name). Can you tell our DS was not named Elijah? LOL! Gideon is very biblical to me.

I don't think that Elijah goes with John thanks to the two J's clashing. Gideon goes well though.

I like Gideon

I love Gideon. That's not 'now'. Bible names getting more and more hardcore bible by the minute though. It'll be 'Ebenezer come in for your violin lesson' quite soon.

Gideon much nicer.

Elijah is a gorgeous name. Gideon - not so keen on.

p.s. I don't know a single Elijah and we live in a 'very now' part of north London . It's all Isaac and Zachary round here!

I only know one Elijah, who is 3.
That said, there were 318 of them named last year, compared to 247 the year before. I still don't think that makes it particular popular or 'now' though. In fact I'm not sure how a biblical name can ever be classed as 'now'!
It's a lovely name.

I guess Elijah Wood might have prompted the name to be more popular in recent years?

Elijah is more now and trendy. I don't know about Gideon.

Both names are lovely...but, someone else pointed it out already...Elijah John doesn't really work, soorry!
So, in that case I would vote for Gideon...there is a cool character in criminal mind who they call Gideon...

my personal favourie Biblename for boys is Noah....but dh sadly hated it...now I have 3 boys but still no Noah, lol
