Is this better as a nickname for something or is it fine alone do you think?

sorry! I think it is fine alone, but I have given my son a shortened name as a first name (clue is in my user name!), so I would think that.

It's not a name. Could be a nickname for Henrietta though

Hester is fab and Hatty is really sweet.

I'm one for giving the 'full' name and then using the diminutive if you prefer ...
But I'm also one for going with what you like when it comes to names.

Either way, I like Hetty, Hatty and Henrietta.

It is short in her case for Harriet (which is a diminutive of Henrietta) -because I didn't like Hatty.

She is 15 now and never calls herself Harriet, only ever Hetty and she loves it as a name.

We have recently met another Hetty for the first time ever-and that case it is short for Heather.

If I could go back, I'd have registered her as Hetty.

Beautiful name, mostly because I love the book 'What Hetty Did' she is one of my favourite heroines.

Our friends called their dd1 Hetty after the dh's grandmother. Gran was called Henrietta, nickname Hetty but dd1 was called Hetty in full. It's gorgeous, imo

Ooh, I like Hetty as a diminutive of Heather ... My friend's SIL is Heather and gets called Hebs which I'm not so keen on - each to their own tho.

I love it but dd2 is Hattie so am biased (we were going to put Harriet on her birth certificate but decided just to go with Hattie)

Hetty is lovely, either as the full name or short for Henrietta.

It's got the edge on Hatty/Hattie for me.

Our Hettie's name is short for something, but when people use the full version I do find myself thinking who she? I actually much prefer the nickname, but am glad she has the long name to look serious on CVs etc with. Also makes her sound v posh and intelligent.

I like Hattie better.
