The names of weekend paper columnists children

Why is it whenever you read a column in the supplements the children have such awful names? This usually happens in the Guardian. I won't cite any for fear of people lynching me, but this weekend's Family section is a prime example.

It's always: "John Smith took his two children Daffodil and Ethelred fly fishing this weekend"....

I find it irritating, in a probably hideously unreasonable way.

I haven't read this weekend as I read them in drip drip fashion over the week due to annoying children interupting all the goddamn time on a Sunday

my friends have got some weird and wonderful names for children which at first you think hmmmm

but then the child matches the name as they grow iyswim

Daffodil? Poor, poor girl.

Trouble is, I LIKE Daffodil. It's my absolute favourite flower and I think it's a very cheery name. But DP vetoed it, utterly and absolutely.
