we decided against Florence, as we have a Fred and the Tesco Clothing thing just put us off. I love Flora, but DH says she will get crucified at school because of Flora margarine.
I think he's wrong ( he usually is)

I like Beatrice but DH doesn't like.
my SIL is called Emma and she's weird so that's put me off that name!

I like martha...again DH doesn't like.

I am going off to pick some blackberries now with the DS's...so will give it some thought.
What does everyone think of Nancy?..it seems to be the only name both me and DH like..

mabel, we have very similar taste

I also liked Valerie and Hilary although they sound hideous with our surname.

Flier · 18/08/2008 15:45

constance- can be shortened to connie - i said this earlier but was mabne missed?

Flier · 18/08/2008 15:46

maybe even

loobylu3 · 18/08/2008 16:32

How about(sorry for rpts):

Beatrice/ Beatrix
Constance
Mabel
Pearl
Elsie
Violet/ Viola
Emmeline/ Evelyn
Theodora
Rosamund/ Rosalind
Cecily/ Cecilia
Lilian/ Lilith
Maude
Harriet
Augusta
Maggie
Jemima
Susanna

I quite like old fashioned names too. BTW I think Flora is lovely- such a shame that it is slightly spoilt by the margarine brand!!

mabel1973 · 18/08/2008 16:49

some lovely ones there thanks...

I love Mabel, but we called another one of our cats that, but she got ran over

love violet, but DH just thinks of violet beauregard from charlie and the chocolate factory!

I thought about Flora for dd. I think it's quite popular in Scotland ??

elmoandella · 18/08/2008 17:45

i'm from scotland and i've never met or even heard of any flora's???

ethanchristopher · 18/08/2008 17:48

there is a flora at DS's nursery and (although she is infact a devil in a small pink outfit with pigtails) both i and the staff call her marge for short (not in front of her parents of course)

i wouldnt do it

EffiePerine · 18/08/2008 17:52

Harriet
Clara

wotulookinat · 18/08/2008 18:04

I really liked Flora and suggested to DH before we knew we were having boy. He said no way on the grounds that he knew a Flora when he was a teenager and there were lots of cruel jokes among the boys about her spreading easily. Such a shame because it's a lovely name. I think Florence is gorgeous.
