What do you think of the boys names Ilyas, Tarun and Hem?

skirt hem, run tarun run, ilyas will sound like i'll ask in scotland

thisisyesterday · 13/08/2008 21:01

ooh I like Tarun.
was going to call ds2 Tarryn, for ages. then suddenly decided not to,. still like it though

MrsMattie · 13/08/2008 21:20

Tarun has the capacity to sound made up and a bit like those Jalen / Jaden / Taylor type names.

Hem - never heard of it, a bit weird to my ears.

I know a little boy called Ilyas. I think it's lovely.

WipingAssAndTakingNames · 13/08/2008 21:50

'Hem' is what a lot of people tend to say to denote that they're thinking. As in, "Hemmm, I'll just go and see" or "Hemm, let me check my diary". My dh does it a lot. Potential problem?

Ilyas I do quite like. Unusual but not obscure, masculine but not heavy.

collision · 13/08/2008 21:51

No.

They sound made up and trying too hard to be different.

fizzbuzz · 13/08/2008 21:52

Hmmm I've taught a lot of naughty boys called Ilyas.

It usually gets changed by classmates to Sillyass........

kittywise · 13/08/2008 21:54

no, they are all horrible

Katisha · 13/08/2008 22:00

Oh lord...what has happened to real names on these threads?

Hadassah · 13/08/2008 22:02

I would avoid Ilyas unless I were Greek.

emj23 · 13/08/2008 22:04

I knew a girl called Taryn, so Tarun doesn't sound boyish to me. Unfortunately, the others sound made up.

Boulders · 13/08/2008 22:15

LOL, they are all (asian) family names that my husband likes.

Ilyas is a common Muslim name (but maybe it's greek too, I didn't know that). My F-I-L is called Ilyas too.

Thanks for the opinions, I will think on them.

You did not mention that they were family names. That's different, and it's good that you have a choice as well. Ilyas/Ilias can be Greek but that's beside the point if it is a family name. Tarun is a nice name

Ashantai · 14/08/2008 00:10

I really like Tarun but then i am a little biased as my daughter is called Taryn

I'm from the UK and its quite a rare name. Sadly enough, i was watching an american talk show and one of the guests was called Taryn, and i thought it was really pretty, i know, i know, i have no imagination

janeite · 14/08/2008 00:12

I teach a couple of Muslim boys called Ilyas and they are both very sweet. I don't like Tarun and like Hem even less sorry.

MrsMattie · 15/08/2008 09:32

The Ilyas I know is from a Muslim family. It's not made up.
