Astrid? My chum thinks it's chavvy.

admittedly, he's in the minority (of one, as it happens), but he's being a bit strident about it.
Would have been DS' name, and now is back on the table.
It's the only girl's name i really like, apart from evangeline, but don't like the Evie-shortening.
Opinions welcome.

dd2 is astrid.. - I think its too foreign to be chavvy

Ha Frazzle my friends called Astrid and has very blonde hair, blue eyes and is very stunning... also thin with big boobs
Her parents were Dutch.
People do find it fuuny to contantly call her Astroid which she hates apart from tht everyone including her loves the name. Asti for short.

It's a family name in my family and I know lots of gorgeous, awesome Brendas, weird to see people sniggering at it like it's a joke name that nobody would use.

I LOVE Astrid. Elegant, non-girly, other-worldly - what isn't there to love? My first daughter is due next week and she's going to be Astrid. Not chavvy AT ALL!

Just thinking about what will be a 'cool' name when our babies grow up. IMO it'll be the Brenda's, the 'Norma's' and the 'Marion's' (think our mother's best mates) who will be super-cool.

Really dislike it. It sounds harsh and is so similar to "get rid".

This is my daughter's name (we are Danish), and we get loads of compliments on it. I like the associations w/ A Lindgren and A Gilberto as well. It's also a royal name in Scandinavia so very traditional/old norse as well as hip at the moment (and not at all chavvy). You can use the nickname 'Asta' if you feel Astrid is too heavy.
