I'm looking for suggestions on an Arabic Girls name (with meaning!) that's easy to say in english...needs to work with Sami (big bro) and a V. long surname!
I love Leila, Mona (said mun-a), Rana, Dana...but DH won't agree to any!
DH wants Mia (said My-a) but I can't find a meaning for it, and it just seems a little too common at the mo...
Any ideas?!

true! what's your problem? actually I am Lucius Malfoy, not Draco Malfoy.

UmSami · 08/08/2008 00:17

lol! you guys have lost the plot!
Puss your DH said pretty much same as mine BLAH...looks like Samia it is LOL.
Just sent DH list of about 30 names...he is really trying my patience!
He keeps saying we should call her Camden ...I think he's just trying to force me into submission and acceptance of Mia!

Suggest Talia 'dew from God' or Salma 'peaceful'. Found them and other Arabic names here: www.babynamespedia.com/search/f/arabic

Ayesha/Aisha?

DD1's middle name. Can't remember the meaning. Was the name of Mohammed's favourite wife.

gagarin · 08/08/2008 17:17

Does the Mya you're looking for get prononced the same way as Maha? That means wild cow (as in very beautiful!).

UmSami · 09/08/2008 00:57

Thanks for all the lovely suggestions guys...
Still awaiting response from DH on all the names I sent him yesterday...
Talia's lovely and I dont think that was on my list, so i'll try him with that one too.
Aisha's nice but we know quite a few.
Maha's pretty too, but not the same as Mya... I just haven't considered it cos I can't quite get my head around the meaning!
Still stuck, still thinking! Here's hoping DH agrees to something soon...
I still love Leila...it seems he's the only one who doesnt!
Mariyah, was suggested to me today, I like it and it was on yest's list so here's hoping!

if you like zahrah, what about zehra? pronounced like sarah but with a z? it means flower in arabic and big flower in farsi.

eandz · 09/08/2008 11:22

i figured if i ever had a little twin girls i'd name one Duah (pronounced du-ah) and the other maha.

and their little sister sarah. but i'm having a little boy. so i'll stop until i'm pregnant again.

TwoWindyDays · 09/08/2008 14:32

pinata · 09/08/2008 21:00

ButterflyMcQueen · 09/08/2008 21:02

farah or aisha gorgeous imo

fuzzywuzzy · 09/08/2008 21:08

Shakira -graceful

what names has he come up with apart from Mia?

UmSami · 10/08/2008 01:17

Hi all, thanks again!
I'm still waiting for his lordship to comment on the list of names I sent him yesterday...he seems to think that as I won't see him for the next 3 weeks he has some time before I nag too much!
He's been set on Mya since I was pregnant with DS who's now 2.4...he was convinced that he was a girl and named him Mya at about 11 weeks! (he even told the sonographer at my 20 week scan that she was wrong, I was having a girl!)
From 20 weeks we had 2 boys names picked out, and in my postnatal haze as he said 'he looks more like a Sami than an Adam' I didnt have the energy to argue...5 min later he had announced to the world that Sami was here...don't get me wrong, I love my son's name and it's perfect for him...but I have this feeling that my hubby will do the same this time around! I don't dislike Mya but it just doesnt feel right to me...I really want a name that we both like...
BUT HE WONT COMMIT TO ANYTHING ELSE!
Maybe I should do what my friends gorgeous 4 year old suggested...and just call her Leila anyway!
At the moment we both like Amber...thankyou Mildmanneredjanitor...but are worried about exactly how its said in Arabic. Mariyah (fair complection-a wife of Prophet Mohammad)) is also growing on me as is Talia ('dew from God')...thanks nickeldime!
We'll see...maybe he'll break!
Oh just to clarify my husbands logic...(he'll kill me lol) he doesn't like 'old' names...yet he wanted Adam for a boy?...Does it get any older?!

Gorgeous name, gorgeous Queen.

UmSami · 11/08/2008 19:47

Am fit to throttle hubby at this point...he will not coment on any name...I'm gonna send him this whole thread to try and point out how helpful everyone is when it comes to naming bubs...appart from him!
