Does anybody like the name Nuala? I love it, but my partner says its horrible.
We already have a Lydia, if I cant talk him round I might go for Maisie, Mabel, Martha or Ruthie.

DisenchantedPlusBump · 25/07/2008 19:41

Pronounced Noola?

DisenchantedPlusBump · 25/07/2008 19:42

She she will get that all her life!

I prefer the other names

yousaidit · 25/07/2008 19:43

I love it! What if your dd has blond hair when born? Call her Fionnuala (Pron 'Finoola') it means Nuala with blond hair! It's onour short list!

Love Nuala! Also Fionnuala because she could be Finn or Nuala. But my DP overruled me on this one too. Sometimes he has no vision.

janeite · 25/07/2008 20:08

No - but I love Lydia! Maisie, Mabel and Martha are all nice too and Ruth but not Ruthie.

zippitippitoes · 25/07/2008 20:09

not ruthie just ruth

out of those i think nuala is the best what about naomi

cthea · 25/07/2008 20:11

Naomi is v nice. Good choice with Lydia too.

meglet · 25/07/2008 20:12

I like it, but have only heard it before because I thought it was a name 'created' for a range of Yoga clothes (poosibly puma or addidas)? I didn't know it was a proper name.

Out of the others I like Mabel best.

janeite · 25/07/2008 20:12

Naomi is a fab name - one of my dds has Naomi as one of her names.

Heated · 25/07/2008 20:13

Love Mabel and Ruth.

Desiderata · 25/07/2008 20:13

It doesn't look right. It looks like the spelling's wrong.

AbbeyA · 25/07/2008 22:41

I don't like it. I like Maisie and Martha but not Mabel. Ruth is fine but can't stand Ruthie.

RuthT · 25/07/2008 22:45

I am called Ruth and can only bear Ruthie from my brother, mum and dad - and maybe my husband. I do like Nuala.

Not many people called Ruth so it is quite a good name and not met anyone who dislikes it (mind you you would they tell me anyway!)

Not sure about the others

mylovelymonster · 25/07/2008 22:48

Love Mabel - reminds me of miss mabel in 'an ideal husband', played by minnie driver, alongside the dashing rupert everett.

How about Cecily?

bosch · 25/07/2008 22:49

Friend is called Nuala and her dh shortens it to 'Noo' - obviously she really loved it when the noo-noo did all the cleaning up on the teletubbies. Your dd may not mind that though
Do like Nuala best of your choices.

ButterflyMcQueen · 25/07/2008 22:50

Nuala divine stick with it

Capital · 25/07/2008 22:50

I quite like Nuala though it's weirdly complicated to look at written.

Like Mabel, and Martha is very sweet.

pointydog · 25/07/2008 23:04

I trhink Ruth is lovely

Hulababy · 25/07/2008 23:05

I an not so keen on Nuala. However, I love the name Martha.

Tommy · 25/07/2008 23:08

I like Nuala - if you are Irish
DS3 was going to be Lydia so I like that
Ruth - rather than Ruthie please - you can always call her Ruthie if you want but let her be Ruth officially
Martha is my niece so also like that
Not keen on Mabel
Don't like Maisie at all I'm afraid

nooka · 25/07/2008 23:10

If your dh thinks it is horrible there is not much point thinking about it really.

GivePeasAChance · 25/07/2008 23:17

DH has an auntie Nuala. She is a nun. And very nice and kind and lovely.
