Having boy/girl twins. Looking up name meanings and came across Tamsin, meaning' twin' which I like. Boy's version is Thomas (which I also like), but they are a bit much together. Wondered if anyone else knows any names which mean 'twin' and don't start with a 't'.

Is Gemma not from Gemini also meaning twin? Not really sure, just a thought.

Don't know about names meaning twins, but Jacob and Esau are a famous pair (although Jacob means supplanter, which perhaps isn't great (my name has Jacob as it's root, and I always felt slightly short changed on it's meaning).

Castor and Pollux are the twins that make the constellation Gemini.

'Ikiz' = 'twin' in Turkish.

mrsmajeika · 18/07/2008 08:24

Thomas means brother

I have b/g twins too, and my first thought is: these kids are going to spend so much of their time trying to escape being identified solely by their "twinness", wouldn't it be kinder to give them a name that gives them their own special meaning, and not a permanent reminder that all they amount to is just one of a pair, and are nothing individially? They are not just twins, both are different and special, can't their names reflect that?

LongLiveGreenElizabeth · 18/07/2008 09:43

Gemela is kind of madeyuppy sounding, but I think it is Spanish for the female twin.

Los gemelos being twins (and cuff links)

I totally agree with pp though. I like Gemma though!

MerryMarigold · 18/07/2008 11:23

kateri, i know what you mean. but also...as b/g twins and non identical they will definitely have their own identities, so I'd like them to remember when they are 25 that they are special as twins, as well as for other reasons..and also to remember their closeness. Maybe they will anyway, but am assuming different sexes, different interests, different classes at school, they will grow up quite separate. Ds's name has no particular meaning (Olive tree!). I'm not that 'into' meanings, but just wanted a slight reminder for further down the line when they are older.

What about any of these:

Aidan and Nadia
(Aidan is Nadia in reverse but I don't think they sound too same-y or themed)

Ezra and Ophelia
(both mean help but Ezra is Hebrew and Ophelia is Greek, again not an obvious theme but a nice little link between the names)

Nathaniel and Theodora
(Dora/Thea/Dotty for short) - both mean gift of god, again Nathaniel is Hebrew, Theodora is Greek

Lucius and Seren
Lucius from ther Latin meaning light and Seren is Welsh for star

nooka · 18/07/2008 12:59

That's quite cool Mavornia. We almost had a an Ezra (but ds turned out to be dd!). Fab name

Didymus means twin
